Anyone else cooking with Volcanic Fissure?

I'm still in cruel acts, but I'm having fun with this skill and want to hear from others on how you're running it.

What has been working for me this far:

  • Full fire conversion with Avatar of Fire
  • Perfect strike as a secondary skill for bosses & rares. Running this with extended ignite duration and together with the "extra dmg vs burning/ignited enemies" nodes it makes for a nice rhythm of: infernal cry -> perfect strike -> volcanic fissure until ignite runs out -> repeat
  • I'm dual wielding one-handed maces so far, as I've found the faster attack speed essential for perfect strike. (I wish this created two fissures. :D)
  • Trying both Stampede and Sunder for proccing the fissure aftershocks. They seem about the same so far and I'm only really using them if a second pack runs into a bunch of existing fissures.

As for mechanics:

  • Shockwave totem unfortunately does not seem to trigger fissure aftershocks. I'll try the slam totem once I unlock it. There might be some tech with Jagged Ground support, but I have not tried this yet: video.
  • Aftershock chance is great, as it triggers all connected fissures. Getting about 40% from the titan node and the two mace nodes in the lower left on the tree.

Here's the things I have not figured out yet and was hoping to hear from others:

  • What supports are you running? Is the "extra fissures" one worth it? I am using attack speed, phys as extra fire and more elemental damage so far.
  • Is it worth to go for giant's blood?
  • How are your defences in the late game? Is a shield required?
  • Anyone using a completely different setup with this skill?

Well I enjoy using it a lot, though I'm using it as supplementary damage.

Mostly I have it linked to Lacerate support, with Bloodlust support on the main skill

If you're using Sunder you can also link Splinter support to Volcanic Fissure to shred armour so that Sunder can consume it for crits. Though due to volcanic fissure's conversion the armour shred won't be as high as it could be.

I've found it pairs better with Supercharged Slam than Sunder though. Every aftershock you get from the stages will trigger Volcanic Fissures, meaning you can spec out of aftershock chance and into something else. But that's a question of preference I think.

What other things are you trying? Have you considered going full fire slams?

Right now VF feels a bit awkward since the other slams are full phys

I'm going giant's blood with a shield atm, and it gives me pretty nice survivability. Getting enough strength for upgrades can be tricky though. On the other hand lots of life because of it.

So yeah if you can meet those requirements it's worth it imo.

Shockwave totem does trigger the fissues, but you gotta have jagged ground on the volcanic fissues for whatever reason. Others have found this same combo.
