Early Mapper Stormweaver Builds
The vast majority of build guides that I'm seeing for stormweaver involve two things:
- Archmage
- Really strong gear
I tried going archmage with budget gear on my fresh sorc doing T1 maps and - go figure - I can barely kill normal packs.
To that end, seems like there needs to be a bridge build in here before you get the gear that's needed to make these more advanced builds work.
Has anyone had luck with putting something like this together?

This build focuses on picking up as much spell dam/shock off the tree as possible, at the expense of big defense.

Did you just slap Archmage on your current tree? Or did you spec an Archmage tree as well? Archmage is really really good, you just need a bunch of Mana and Mana Regen. If you don't take a bunch of Mana nodes on the tree, you aren't going to see Archmage so much of anything.
I have been using Dr3ad‘s elemental storm build. got me to tier 8

This is exactly what you're looking for. I was in exactly your position, trying to make a CI-based build work w/o the proper gear. Just go life-based and stack mana. You will be a bit squishy, full disclosure, but you're stunning the entire screen, and have massive range and insane damage, so I don't die very much.
Slap on Ghostwrithe and go CI and es on tree.
Solves most of your defensive problem.
