What does the heft (support gem actually do?

I have a high physical damage build and I’m wondering if this is worth using
Is there a physical damage cap that I’m unaware of or does this just give me a flat 30% physical damage increase?

If your skill does 100 to 200 physical damage, with the support it now does 100 to 260 physical damage. It's especially useful for things like bleed.
It is very powerful for BLEEDS where the strength of the hit basically controls the magnitude of the bleed
Otherwise it’s a bit mediocre because it only impacts one range of your damage
Still fairly newish to the game, but I believe that the 30% increase is only to the maximum.
So if you had a weapon that dealt 7 through 21 damage, it would increase the max to 27.3 (not sure if the game does percentage though, might be 27 flat) and have the POTENTIAL of hitting that but not a flat increase to damage. Just an increase in damage potential.
does this just give me a flat 30% physical damage increase
No. It gives your maximum possible physical damage hit a 30% increase. The minimum does not change.
It is also probably bugged because if you phys to ele convert you get the 30% more on your ele damage.
The best way to explain it is that it pushes the upper limit of your damage higher. For example if you were hitting 100-200, it would be 100-260, meaning the minimum damage is the same, but your upper limit is higher. This can be particularly strong for abilities that leave a lingering effect based on damage that doesn't stack much, like bleed. It is still a damage increase for other builds, but is stronger the larger the gap between the upper and lower damage. In the previous example of 100-200, it is about an average of 20% boost whereas something like 1-299 damage is much closer to a 30% boost and 149-151 is closer to a 15 percent boost.
If your damage for basic attack is 1 - 10 damage it increases the 10 by 30%
So your new basic hit is 1 - 13 damage
Increased the max phys damage by 30%. It's particularly strong if you have lucky damage. Also pretty sure this works before conversion so it still works on something like lightning rod which has 100% of phys damage converted to lightning.
- 30% more to the Max hit
- 0% more to the Min hit
- 15% more on average damage
- It overperforms for ailments like bleed. If you hit a few times the strongest ailment will 'tick'
- it overperforms with 'lucky' hits
- it can suck to occasionally not one-shot or not stun mobs if you have a high damage range.
- it can work nice with explosions or 'on kill' effects
good for srs
It’s roughly a 15% more modifier with a lot more swing to the range. I like it as like a 5th or 6th mod when you’re really reaching for a usable support. Does well with poison and bleed for getting large procs. Bell can use it along heavy swing with several fast hits maximizing your chance to high roll.
