The Passive tree is made up of 5 kinds of Nodes.
Travel Nodes: Function like a Road going to and from different areas of the passive tree
Small passive nodes: the smaller nodes in each "wheel" of the passive tree, offering small bonuses usually within a specific scheme such as 12% increased fire damage
Notable Passive Nodes The larger Nodes within a wheel, they usually have more significant or unique bonuses within a wheel archetype and have unique names like "Heavy Buffer" or "Resolution" and require getting at least one of the Small passive nodes in the wheel before you can get to it
Keystone passives: the Largest Icons on the passive tree. Usually alone with no other points required to get to them beyond travel nodes, usually change base rules of the game and have flavor text such as "Whispers of doom" allowing you to apply multiple curses instead of the usual one.
and Jewel Sockets which allow you to use items to customize the jewels and are usually on the same lines as the Travel nodes.
Against the Darkness goes into the Jewel sockets and applies additional stats/attributes to the Small passive nodes and the Notable passive nodes.

Notables are the big nodes in your tree.
Each notables allocated within the jewel's circle will grant the extra stats on the jewel. So for example, Illuminated Crown normally grants 20% light radius and 70% energy shield from helmet, but it would now also grant 6% reduced ignite duration and +10 spirit
The jewel itself can have a bunch of different stats, so this is only one example
this is to much of a DPS hit for a light sorc just get a good jewel
Can we talk about how shitty gem placement is for warrior (left side) tree? There’re basically no worthy place to put time-lost jewel to apply plenty of useful nodes.
can someone tell me how find the jewels with + to spirit? i only ever find the other ones, and cant search for the modifier :(
My character sheet has me at -%30 fire resistance, the buff states +%1 maximum fire resistance?
Yes it answers exactly how the jewel is supposed to work but look at this pic I included
That is the one I’m actually using and the fire resistance is not being reflected in my stats?
