Freeze buildup vs magnitude of chill?

I'm playing a deadeye that's using the double herald setup and I'm confused about freeze buildup. Is freeze buildup just another mod for chill magnitude or does those nodes just make freeze last longer? I'm so confused about the stat.

im p sure freeze buildup affects the ailment threshold requirements to actually freeze something. x cold damage * inc freeze buildup % = actual amount of freeze buildup applied.

The way i thought chill magnitude worked, was that it just increases the amount that the "chilled" debuff does. any frost dmg can freeze based on mob ailment threshold.

I think they changed how stuff works from poe1. i could be talkin out my ass though not 100%

Chill and freeze are two different things. In PoE specific wording is very important, if there are 2 different words then they are NOT describing the same thing.

Freeze is one ailment, that builds up as you hit a target with cold damage, until it reaches 100% and the target gets frozen. Freeze buildup lets you hit 100% faster.

Chill is a slow that all cold damage can inflict. The more cold damage you hit an enemy with, the higher the chill magnitude (the more the enemy is slowed). More chill magnitude means your chills will slow the enemy more.
