New lvl 33 Ranger, new to herald of ice and herald of thunder, help me understand procing the heralds

10

Hi guys I am a level 33 dead eye ranger running shatter freeze ring, widow hail with 3 sockets, 2 cold and 1 lightning. Leveling with poison arrow radiant grief homebrew build that has been working extremely well

I have experimented with other widow hail gems setups and for my level this one seems to work best. I am honestly shooting in the dark though.

Can someone properly explain how cold damage and lightning damage factor into procing these heralds? When I first started using poison gas and radiant grief with heralds of ice, it would proc very rarely now with the 2 cold 1 lightning gem, it procs on every shot. I just got a 30spirirt chest and added heralds of thunder but I notice it only procs on maybe 1/5 deaths.

In the interest of not wasting divines and exalts as I head into endgame can someone properly explain how procing these works and what stats I need to pay attention too? I am extra confused on if I need to be looking for straight physical increase both percentage and flat or if I want to focus on flat eke (that’s what seems to be improving proc) or % eke increased damage. I currently have lightning support gems +magnified effect on herald of ice and cold support gems on herald of lightning as that seems to be the common setup.

I really appreciate anyone who’s willing to help, the more info the better, coming from witch and this being my first poe game I’m getting lost in the sauce on martial damages

You need HoI to shock and HoT to freeze. Then you need your main attack to do one or the other to proc whichever herald to start the chain. Ways to make this happen: -Flat added lightning / cold damage to attacks. -increased freeze build up/chance to shock jewels / passives. -cold infusion + glacation on HoT -lightning infusion + conduction on HoI
