How on earth are y'all making so much money/currency?
Title says it all - I'm a newish player with around 100 hours in POE 1 and another 100 in POE2.
Currently finishing up my Cataclysm's wake quest Tier 15's and the best gear I seem to find sells for a maximum of 5-10Exalts
I see posts about mirror's or weapons worth hundreds of Divines but I'm yet to see a single divine in maps or any gear worth anything near that.
What am I doing wrong? Am I just totally missing some big endgame system that allows people to make loads of money? Or do you really just need to spend thousands of hours farming?
Edit: I did have a single Divine Orb drop for me during one of my many ascension attempts during the campaign, however I haven't seen a single one since. I converted it into Exalts via Currency Exchange then used them to buy some good mapping gear which has carried me all the way to T15's - but now I'm dirt broke since I haven't really made any of that money back by doing maps.

The rich people are hideout warriors. They spend all day buying and flipping items.
The biggest lesson I've learned after 12k hours of PoE, Is.... "Don't worry about what others are doing" Just play at your own pace.
Not finding 1 raw divine by now is slightly on the downside of variance, hopefully you find one soon.
But try to avoid comparing yourself to what you perceive other people are getting. Out of 200,000+ people that were playing the last few hours, ONLY the ones that got something amazing post about their drops. It seems like people are constantly dropping high value items because the 199,997 people that dropped nothing noteworthy didn't post about it.
Also, there is the option of play 10+ hours a day.
If you want fastest way to make money, I think it’ll be hideout warrior trader strat. It’s more a chore than game for most people though. Personally I rather make real money with my time if I want to play trader
Aside from that, this game is about knowledge. A few ways to make money: 1. farm and sell: audience with the king, simulacrum splinters, breachstones; 2. Reforge crafting; 3. Currency exchange flipping 4. Pick up rare bases to sell 5. Map crafting (many of them sell 40ex to 1 div)
If you don’t mind not running best in slot maps, map crafting seems pretty good right now. I run medium good maps and sell my best maps
I'm a newish player with around 100 hours in POE 1 and another 100 in POE2.
People have literally put in tens of thousands of hours in this franchise for over a decade now. People have been playing in video game economies like PoE, Diablo 2, and World of Warcraft for nearly 30 years. Some people are also investing real money into their wealth. It's only natural that you pale in comparison with your mere 100 hours.
There’s basically a few ways to make cash
- Run trials of the sekh
- Run trials of chaos
- Run breach maps juiced with delirium for extra splinters which sell for around 1 exalt each
- Run delirium maps and sell splinters
- Merch (probably really hard to do without at least 20 div of seed money)
Yeah man similar position lvl 77 invoked totally new to PoE. Unsure what stats to look for on hear that make it worth selling then trying to value said item. Only sold a couple of items in early levels sitting on a grand total of 11 exalted orbs so barely enough to buy anything that can help me. Just playing the game 😅
No need for thousands of hours to farm, just buff your item rarity to about 100% you will start to drop much more stuff, also doing end game map content like breach, delirium, expedition and rituals can net you a lot of extra exalts in the long run, you can check the prices of these items from content at alva in your hideout, curency exchange, we can get deep into this so look for some info on this topic
100% quant on breach maps with 500% iir. I got 15 divs from drops yesterday and 12 divs the day before getting on average 20-40ex in raw currency drops per map.
My experience as someone a bit further along than you:
- Finish T15 quest with 1 divine dropped
- Get some gear, farm breaches bc everyones saying its the tits
- Wasnt great for me, but I eventually got a breachstone
- By some miracle kill the breach boss on first attempt
- Got 75% more breach splinter point and proceed to farm another stone MUCH faster
- Kill breach boss again, get lucky HOWA, hit the corrupt on extra socket making 7 divine off the trade
- Do Arbiter, get Grand Regalia, make another 10 divine
- Now I can somewhat stably farm the bosses for currency by buying stones/fragments or just map if I am not as locked in.
Pinnacle content, having around 90-100% IIR, and running T16s on +2 level maps to get bases that can roll some of the best affixes, like you need a level 82 area (T16 with +2 level) to get 35% ms on boots.
I've gotten 4 raw divines in 160 hours or so.
Run breach.
Get 100% rarity. Get all 8 points for the breach atlas. Go straight to all the towers and give them a breach tablet with quantity %. Get a good build that can clear breaches fast. I play 2-4hrs a day and make around 5divs min a day. Pick up anything expert ES equipment.
Raw currency drops isn’t where the moneys at, it’s bases and well rolled rares that can sometimes sell for many divines. For example : I got a dropped minion helmet with +2 to minion levels, with solid ES rolls and I hit a lucky corrupt +1 totaling +3 to minion skills and high es. I sold it for 50 Divine. Another example: I got a breach ring with max mana roll and high mana regen and slammed some useable affixes and that sold for 10 divine.
Consistent income can also come from “ simulacrum splinters” or “breach splinters” those are fairly consistent currency and can at least help you out if you’re struggling.
Use Alvas currency trading market for bubble gum currency and splinters / etc.
You got a shit bucket?
Get items with "increase item rarity" as a modifier. It takes time but it's the way to get a steady flow.
Yea I feel ya. I think I’ve gotten inflated out of economy. I got to t15 maps like week 2ish. Got some lucky drops and divines and got decent gear to farm maps quick. But any upgrade now to push me where I can do uber bosses costs so much and only getting higher in cost. I’m not sure I’ll ever upgrade unless you hit lottery luck drop or spend another 200 hours
Capitalism. Those who started earlier or spun up faster or just got lucky got better loot to sell, got more money to power up their builds, allowing them to challenge harder missions and get even better loot to equip or sell and the virtuous cycle ensures that they stay ahead.

Grinding Traiding Scamming
This is what I did to make My first 50 divs. I played ultimátum with 10 challenges until I was able to gather 8 divines, paid a carry for atlas points to unlock the ritual tree, it was 2 divs per run in tft(each invitación was 7 divs at they time so it was a lot cheaper to pay carry). Then I farmed enough maps to get omens, invitations and rares with good mods, I Made back the 8 divines plus 42ish divs more by selling the ritual currency plus random rares with good mods. I bought equipment to switch to spark archmage, made myself breach invitations to unlock the breach tree and now that I have enough dmg and MF I can clear maps with 4 to 8 breachs that gives me 1 to 2 divs per map if I gather and sell everything valuable including all the expensive rares.
I ain't trading for real until the game actually launch. There is no way I am ultra tryharding EA.
This is a very good post describing the process of going from a beggar to a mini-tycoon

You're making Reddit posts and not mapping bro
My first two divs didnt even come from finding them on the ground but selling items i found/created at market price. Ive traded hundreds of players to get the gear i have now
Exploit early exploit often.
Making money pretty much boils down to one of the 3 options
-
be first to something. Things that are trash now sold for much much more the first couple of days of a new league. Bases, decent but not good items, build enabling uniques etc. the first people to get access to those things can snowball currency.
-
do optimal x quickly. Everything in poe is a numbers game. Everything is a lottery. The more you do x in that period the more “shots on goal” you have to hit the lottery. And when I mean quickly I mean quickly. You should be doing maps in less then 3 minutes, trial of chaos in 12 minutes etc. everything is about speed.

hideout warrior aka understanding poe markets. Poe is a market edges exist to make money. Arbitraging the currency market is highly profitable if you know what to flip. Having live searches that you can chaos into profit is lucrative and certain essence crafts can also turn profit.
Any of these shower you in currency but require either a lot of game knowledge or playing 20+ hours a day.
Minor counterintuitive thing, but I’ve seen newbie friends do this forever: most people’s natural instinct is to pick up way too much stuff.
Tighten up your loot filter and blast more content, you will come out way ahead of people still picking up Augments and reading bad bases.
It's an ARPG, do it at your own pace. Whatever makes you have fun, do it.
the part where you really start farming for real is after t15s. You are fully tree'd both on the atlas and breach, you are running t16s often and corrupted t15s otherwise, and fully juicing circles with good quality waystones.
Then you start getting divs regularly and are getting drops and items that can sell for multiple divs. Its just the next level of the economy where instead of selling and making ex, you are spending ex to make divs.
They play a lot more and they do it more efficiently.
Knowing the most popular builds and what stats they want is paramount to making currency through trading. Look up what people are playing and what stats they value and focus on that. As for farming content, if your build is good for it trial of Sehkima has yielded me the most money aside from juiced up breach maps.
You have more currency than you think. Everything in your stash you aren’t using should be sold to someone else. Especially things sold on the currency exchange.
Go in game and type /kills and tell me how much mobs you have killed
From what I have seen, by far the easiest strategy is to hire 1,000 chinese kids, have them do all the grinding for you, and then they send all the good gear, cash and maps to you which you put in a folder called Elons Map.
This works for several top tier players, apparently.
I see the same names on the trading website. Some of these people have monopolies. I've been looking for a good pair of gloves and this dude would buy out these gloves from someone else and turn around and sell it for a really high price and then I would come back the next day and the gloves wouldn't be on the trading site.
This part is killing my enjoyment for my friends and I but other than that, I'm having fun :)
High skill players are doing a lot more to their waystones than you will be. Just reaching t15 maps is only beginning the true endgame. Note that this stuff you need to build up to, dont just start trying to do everything and die
-
Good mods (and corrupting too). Mods like + rarity, pack size, rares etc do more the more of it you have.
-
Tablets. Running areas that have multiple towers influencing them with good mods like rarity + breach is big. Again, the more mobs and rarity you add the more it multiplies.
-
Atlas passives. Packsize, rarity, waystone modifier effect all stack together for big effect. Early on you need to take the "better chance for higher tier waystone", but once you're established you dont need it. Having maxed out passives for the mechanic you're running also massively boosts the returns.
-
Rarity on gear. Rarity is the only way to get more out of each map. Note that player rarity and waystone rarity are separate and so multiply together. Hard diminishing returns after 100%.
Just use Alva: Chaos orb & orb orb of chance for Divine orb.
Simulacrun and breachs for exalts then trade for div.
Ritual pinaccle Boss entrance, worth some divs as well.
Trial of chaos is easy to farm too.
All this except Ritual Boss entrance, its easy to farm.
Got my 4th divine in the last week just cranking through maps. I sell them for exalts to 6 link my skills cause those perfects never drop. I got them with rare maps of 10-13 as I ran out of 14-15s and was slumming. 😜
But yeah, those with tons of money spend tons of time playing and use trade for ever remotely worthwhile. I have only traded currency, no items yet. I can run magic 15s but have to be a little careful.
I played HC up until yesterday.
Ive been playing PoE for 12 years now. I have an idea of how mechanics work but im no expert.
I started my mapping journey in SC yesterday.
Currently starting T9 maps. Ive dropped 3 raw divine from tiers 1-5 yesterday.
I always alc/exalt my maps to have 3 favorable mods - pack size rarity - magic
I have aplethora of maps - the maps raw currency drops in almost pure exalts alone are 2-10
rng is rng but knowledge is key.
Selling trial runs, story carrys, trail bosses selling loot. Buying people stuff listed for low then relisting. Make about 5 - 25 divs on a slow day bepending on what i feel like farming
You're not doing anything wrong. You're new, enjoy the game.
TBH a lot of advices here are BS.
I can tell you how I do play and how my friends play. I play off meta builds that I make myself and often they are not good enough to clear high level content and sustain currency. My friends on the other hand play pure meta builds that can cut everything on minimal investment.
So how do my friends play. All three started as minion builds. One later changed into monk. All play MF items. All rush into T15 maps as fast as they could. They ignore most of the drop and try to run as many maps as they can, rarely picking items at all, simply said... grind. Running 70-100 maps per day it is. After 150 hours of gameplay one has 4 raw divine drops, the other has 6 and the last one didnt play thay much and has 1.
I play differently, because I probably couldnt bear the grind. I collect belts in one stash, amulets and rings in other. Recombine them once they are full and hope for good results. Do far I got 3 divines for belts which I really underpriced to sell them fast. Certainly some exalts for rings.
I do craft items for myself, buy unfinished items often and try to finish them. Such as body armours, helmets, gloves, rings... selling back the byproducts. I also do pick superior items and all uniques. Each unique is chance shard which is nearly exalted worth. And then ofc I also drop raw currency.
Many people will say this is not effective way to play. Well. You can play only by trading, you can flip, you can craft, you can scavenge like myself or you can grind like my friends. I would recommend to play the way it satisfy you personaly whichever way it is, but be sure to recognize which way is the effective for your build. Grind is for top meta only and it aint as good as one might think, it can be tedious.
It’s all RNG. I’m not rich but I found my first divine orb at lv91 at a tier1 map.
Having experience/knowledge is what produces the wealth. Time as well. Many ways to get rich, and yes hideout warriors are typically the ones to get rich the quickest, but you can play the game and get rich as well if you have enough time to grind hard at the start of leagues.
I’m new to POE but I’m willing to bet my experience is representative of a majority of players who get to end game.
- I never really had an intention to do a lot of trading, for many of the reasons you mentioned, and also clunkiness due to being on Xbox
- I didn’t get into trading until probably T13+
- Things catalyzed by finding my first perfect jewelers orb, which I immediately sold for 300ex
- That gave me a lot less anxiety about trading. Up until then I struggled to sustain even 10ex at any
- Since then I’ve found 6-7 div and 1 other perfect jewelers. This is what maybe 80-90% MF, so nothing crazy
- Running mostly juiced maps. I don’t obsess over strategic tower setups
I’m not rich but I feel like I’m in a pretty good place with my build. I’ve defeated 2 citadels pretty trivially, and just defeated Zarokh easily after getting Thief’s Torment. I could probably get HoWA but I don’t feel I absolutely need it at this stage.
Do some part time arbitrage or flipping on the currency exchange in between maps, it's not truly free as your effectively trading gold for ex.
Flipping and crafting via the trade website is the more intensive hideout warrior approach.
Aside from running super juiced content, the best way I've ever made currency (poe1 mostly) has always been finding a niche in the market that I could exploit. Be it swapping influence on bases in harvest or alt spamming compasses or whatever else seems to work. IMO just do what you find fun and interesting and fully juice/commit to that system. Currency will come.
I wouldn't listen to all the stock market hideout warrior answers you got.
There is a lot to be made by playing the actual game. And no, you probably never see a mirror in your tab, but there is a big gap between 5 div and 100 div.
I played a lot today and got 4 audience with the king from ritual. That's 24 div right there. (That's an outlier for sure, usually have just one of them a day)
I use breach tablets and at the end of the day sold the breachstone (11) That's another 5 divs.
I dropped 13 raw divines today.
That's already 42 divines. Not counting all the other stuff (lvl 20 gem, perfect jewellers, all the bubblegum like catalysts, exalts etc)
And the occasional rare drop that's actually worth selling.
All from just playing content I like and spending the least amount of time in my hideout as I can.
"Chaos orb! He just left a Chaos orb!!"
How do you know your items are worth max 5-10ex? An item is worth what someone will pay for it, so start high and lower it til it sells. Things you think are trash can be someone else's treasure with the EXACT stats they need.
