How To Earn Currency: A Guide for the Common Exile

385

1. Introduction

This will be part written guide part collection of links to other guides

Many currency making methods are inter-related and all of them relate to trading one way or the other.

If you see something that could be added here please comment below and I will edit where appropriate

Mods if you wana put it up on reddit wiki dm me for copy/paste

2. Before you start

This is what you need to know/have before you can really get going with majority of the currency making approaches described below

  1. Loot Filter. You need it, you want it and you want it more and more strict as you progress through the game and speedrun from peasant > mogul. Time is money and wasting time picking up Transmutes which cost 1/100 of an exalt literally costs you money in the long run. Your options for getting one are A) Get one of the templates from FilterBlade B) customize your own or C) use somebody else's filter like your favorite streamer
  2. At least an average build with average gear with ability to run at minimum T10 maps comfortably but better T15 with either good clear or good single target or both. If you are playing some sort of off meta warrior melee armor monstrosity than this guide cant help you, only Jesus can
  3. Understand that time is money. The less time you waste doing random shit in your hideout the more money you will earn doing content. You dont craft 1 map > run 1 map. You dont get a bit of loot and immediately start sorting the good from the bad. No you do everything in bulk. Need to craft? Craft in bulk. Need to sort through loot? Dump it all into a dump tab until its full only than sort through it in bulk. Trade in bulk. Take a shit in bulk
  4. Understand that to make money you need to spend money. This is completely unavoidable. Dont fear it. Build up some starting capital and fully embrace it. To make the most of your waystones you need to juice them by spending currency crafting them. To turn a mediocre rare item drop into something decent or amazing you need to spend currency for a chance at some good exalt/chaos outcomes. etc
  5. A huge share of potential income is dependent on the ability to trade on the trade website. To trade you will need premium stash tabs as well as basic understanding of how the website works but better yet an advanced understanding of website features to really maximize potential. Some useful guides to follow: Trading Tips & Tricks For Path of Exile 2 and PoE 2 - You Are Buying Items WRONG! - Trade Site Tips and Tricks
  6. Bulk Trading can almost double your profit. Time is money. Spending hours buying hundreds of item bases for crafting is a waste of time. Many people will pay premium for the ability to buy a whole stash tab of items in one go. You can offer bulk item trade on the /trade 820 channel in game or on the official poe2 discord
  7. Increased Item Rarity on gear is crucial for more rare currency drops and better rare item drops. You need at least +50%, better 100% but no more than +150% on gear. After that diminishing returns make it pointless. (14) Path of Exile 2: Testing Increased Item Rarity Part 2 (IIR/Magic Find). Results of 250+ T15 Maps - YouTube

  1. Map sustain guide
  2. Breach Guide
  3. Expedition guide
  4. Ritual guide
  5. Delirium guide

4. Farming Citadels

  1. Explore the atlas in search of Citadels.
  2. Killing the Citadel Bosses drops Crisis Fragments which are necessary to access the Arbiter pinnacle boss.
  3. Get a t15 corrupted map with 500+ waystone drop chance (careful with dmg related modifiers or will die). You can either craft one yourself (unreliable) or buy one on trade for 5-10 ex.
  4. Use tower tablets around citadels with waystone drop chance modifiers
  5. Use general atlas passives from Breach Guide to maximize waystone drop chance even more
  6. Unspec boss atlas passives to reduce difficulty. Either unspec all if weak or keep up to Radiant Waystones notable for more waystone drop chance
  7. This will net you 3+ Criss fragments
  8. Fragments Sell on currency exchange for 75/80/225 ex depending on which citadel they came from

5. Trial of Chaos

5.1 Requirements:

  1. Level 75+ Inscribed Ultimatum to enter (costs 1 ex)
  2. Level 80 Ultimatums are better for leveling as you are grinding the trial and provide a chance to get some useful random drops from mobs.
  3. Build that can complete all 10 rooms (if you are doing t15 maps than you should qualify. Probably even before that).

5.2 Profit Expectations:

  1. You will be killing a bunch of mobs throughout the run. Expect to see avg of 3 ex of drops per run. Obviously sometimes a divine will drop
  2. You are guaranteed 3 soul cores per run. Avg soul core price around 5 ex. = 15ex per run
  3. You are guaranteed either a Victorious / Cowardly / Deadly Fate key fragment drop from room 10 boss which sell for 10/11/31 ex at the time of writing. Avg of 17 ex per run
  4. For the rich and powerful you can buy up Fate keys and run the final boss - Trial master for a chance at some good uniques. Prices have currently dropped. Details below

5.3 Trial Mods:

Before each room you will have to choose 1 of 3 detrimental mods. Its essential you choose carefully so you dont brick your run with difficult mods.

Mod Table

5.4 Running Trial Master:

You can buy up Fate key fragments to run the final boss Trial Master for a chance to drop some good uniques.

Since adorned always drops corrupted you cant even divine it in hopes of a better roll nor vaal it pseudo divine effect

6. Trial of the Sekhemas

First I will describe all the farming strategies than at the end I will go over trial strategy and afllictions/boons

6.1 I am new Strategy

This is mostly for those on a new account who are just trying to complete this thing for the first time and ascend or build up a set of relics to run other strategies without buying them

What to do:

  1. Either repeatedly run 1 or 2 floor trials. Pick up all relics that drop along the way. Make sure to end the run with some water to spare since Barya will have relics for sale after you've killed the final boss of your run
  2. Or run the trial up to the closest hourglass room. Enter the room and fight with a focus on killing the rares and looting relics from them. Logout before the timer ends. Go back in and repeat the room in a loop. NEVER KILL A RARE IF TIMER BELOW 20 SECONDS or the room will complete and you will not be able to loop
  3. Sell excess relics for 5-50 ex of potential profit. Most will be trash
  4. Its best to run area lvl 50 minimum for this

Relic loadout

  1. Honour resist / Max honor / More defenses / More life etc. Anything to survive
  2. Increased quantity of relics dropped to maximize relic drop chances and build out full cache of relics

6.2 Humble Exile Strategy

Made for less powerful characters who can only reliably do floors 1-3.

  1. Run lvl75+ - 4 floor trial. Preferably lvl 80 for more experience gain and better random loot drops
  2. Kill third boss
  3. In the boss reward room EXIT USING PORTAL NEXT TO THE DJINN
  4. Take out test of time token from the pedestal
  5. Sell on Trade website for 45-80+ ex
  6. Price depends on afllictions/boons and relic loadout of the trial.
  7. Read the next strategy since thats who your buyers will be, to understand whats needed. Also read about afflictions/boons in a section down below
  8. Loot relics off the floor and sell on the side for 5-50ex most will be trash

Relic loadout:

  1. Same survival focused relics as in the previous strategy IF YOU NEED THEM
  2. Otherwise read up on the loadout of relics in the next strategy since this directly effects the value of token because your relic loadout here will be used by the customer that buys the token

6.3 Meep Meep Motherfucker Strategy

Objectives:

  1. Complete the full Sekhema run with the final boss killed
  2. Complete the run as fast as possible
  3. Maximize relic drop quantity to get as many unique relics from the final boss with as little need for honour defense as possible
  4. Loot and sell regular jewels from the Royal Caches in the final reward room (abundant)
  5. Loot and sell time-lost jewels from Time-lost Caches in the final reward room (rare)
  6. Loot and sell unique jewels from the Spectrum Cache in the final reward room (1 per 10 runs)
  7. Royal Caches and Time-Lost caches can some times appear in reward rooms after bosses 1-3 but your ability to pick them depends on how many keys you have at the time and the keys you can expect to get by boss 4
  8. Always end the run with a minimum of 1 gold / 1 silver key no matter what to be able to open Spectrum and Time-Lost jewel caches if they are present

Relic Loadout

Relic ModifierPriority
Increased quantity of relics dropped by monsters1 - you need to get this as high as you can which requires sacrificing honour defenses. With 120 ish quantity you can expect two unique relic drops from final boss. With 180 + 30% boon you can get 3 drops per run
Movement speed2 - occurs on the same relics as relic quant
Dodge roll distance2 if you are somehow using this instead of movement speed. occurs on the same relics as relic quant
Additional Merchant Choices3 - if you get +6 you can get all boons in the world and snowball your water through boons. Unfortunately, you will need to sacrifice some quant/MS relics for this. In another words this is a choice between comfortable runs with 2 unique relics at the end or uncomfortable runs with 3
Honour Res4
Everything else5
Reduced merchant priceSome people think this is important cause they saw a guide on youtube. They are objectively wrong. + merchant choices is better in every way

6.4 Carry Elon Musk Strategy (combine with Meep Meep for max efficiency)

  1. Lets be clear there is nothing against ToS here. Carry services have been a thing in PoE 1 for years
  2. Once you complete the room BEFORE the final boss. Exit the trial
  3. Go to /trade 820 channel and advertise a carry service. You can also use official poe2 discord for this (although have not done so personally). Current price around 40 ex / person
  4. Once you've got customers in a party and at the trial doors. Open the trial and go in
  5. Party members stay in the lobby room BEFORE THE BOSS
  6. You go in and kill the boss
  7. Honour dmg is shared. If you are taking hits your customers may die in the lobby room. The more people in party the harder it is to carry them alive.
  8. The squishier the customers are the harder it is to carry them. Your honour resist doesnt apply to them AT ALL
  9. Once boss is dead they can come in and fully ascend to 8 ascension points even from 0 points
  10. Have them trade you the 40ex fee once they've ascended
  11. Get scammed by them running off and not paying. Cry in corner. JK i've had good experience so far but this is a risk you always take with any service sale. No you cant take money up front cause now people will be afraid that you will scam them

6.5 Overall Run Priority

  1. Minimize number of afflictions or your run may become bricked
  2. Maximize sacred water
  3. If you have water maximize merchant encounters
  4. At merchant buy up all the best boons with priority on water/merchant price to create a feedback loop that allows you to eventually buy out the whole merchant (see boons table for more details)
  5. Lowest priority is picking rooms that are faster/easier to complete. Its goes Ritual > Escape > Chalice > Hourglass (actually really fast once build is good enough) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gauntlet (but you can cheat, read tips and tricks section)

6.6 Afflictions and Boons

Affliction and Boon Table

6.7 Tips and Tricks

  1. Blink is very useful for speeding up the run as well as final boss time freeze mechanic. You can teleport up and down ledges and stairs. You can have it on your weapon swap
  2. If you have a couple cheap minions + blink on weapons swap, you can blink through closed doors in gauntlet trials. Hug the door. Spam command minions to move past the door. Blink through. Sometimes doesnt work on doors that need multiple levers to activate. Always works on single lever doors.
  3. If you are unlucky to get the "You are not always taken to the room you want" affliction you can mitigate the damage by looking at the map before selection the room and once you select it comparing whether a left/middle/right door has opened and whether that corresponds to what you selected on the map. If it doesnt than exit trial and go back in and repeat room selection. Sometime the door/map order is strangely backwards, happened to me ones, dont know why

7. Pick Up Item Bases

7.1 Chancing Bases:

Some people have a crippling gambling addiction and like to blow 20 divines try to chance orb an Astramantis and other uber uniques. Your job is to take on the role of the casino, feed their addiction, and take all their money

Set up your loot filter to highlight these bases when they drop with NORMAL RARITY. Fill up a tab and than sell in bulk for a lot of profit

Chance BaseBase Trade LinkChase Unique Trade Link
Heavy BeltHeavy Belt - PoE2 Trade - Path of Exile - 1ex each but more if you sell in bulkHeadhunter Heavy Belt - PoE2 Trade - Path of Exile
Saphire RingSapphire Ring - PoE2 Trade - Path of Exile - 1 ex each but more if you sell in bulkDream Fragments Sapphire Ring - PoE2 Trade - Path of Exile
Stellar AmuletStellar Amulet - PoE2 Trade - Path of Exile - 20 ex each but more if you sell in bulkAstramentis Stellar Amulet - PoE2 Trade - Path of Exile

7.2 Crafting Bases:

The moguls of wraeclast need 100s of normal item bases for a potential to craft something good. Take all their money

Configure the loot filter to highlight these, pick up, fill up a tab, sell in bulk for more money

Minimum 1ex each guaranteed for item level 70 - 79 and more for 80 and 81+. Its really difficult to explain all the possible item level considerations here for each base. Instead I will breakdown a single example to help understand why higher item level can be more valuable

Craft of Exile - Wand [Attuned Wand] if you click on the lightning damage modifier you will see that starting with item level 71 you have a chance to craft up to (90-104)% increased Lightning Damage. However starting with item level 81 you can craft up to (105-119)% increased Lightning Damage. This is where the value is coming from

There are a lot of basses to potentially pick up and I am loosing my sanity writing this so here is a random utube video on the topic.

You can pretty easily configure the loot filter through filter blade to highlight all the crafting bases without having to deeply understand all of them

Bottom line there is literally free money on the ground that can be easily liquated through a bulk trade.

8. Chance gambling

Literally the opposite of whats in section 7.1. You have a crippling gambling addiction. You will blow 20 divines buying chancing bases and chance orbs. You will gamble it all away without getting the Astramantis. Than you will see someone post on reddit about how they got an Astramantis this way. Blow more money. Read more reddit. Repeat the cycle

9. Profit Crafting

This is such an enormous and complicated topic that I am not qualified to explain so we will rely on some existing guides for it

POE 2 In-Game Exchange HIDDEN Arbitrage!! | HOW TO MAKE Free Exalts Using Your Gold!

11. Gold Selling

Some people need a lot of gold because they are doing thousands of arbitrage trades on the currency exchange or they are gambling gold with Alva for a chance at a chase Unique

You can buy gold but you can conver rares into gold. So some people will pay currency for a full tab of random trash rares that they can buy and convert to gold.

Dont know exact price. Maybe 20-40ex per tab of rares? Check on discord and trade 820 channel

12. Alva Gamble

if you have millions of extra gold from all the mapping you can try to gamble with Alva

Ok, I’ll guess I’ll be leaving then.

Camohunter03301

I don't know where yall get some of these prices. I have like 10 stellar amulets bases listed for 3 exalts and no one has ever messaged me. I did that because a YouTube dude said the same thing. But those and other whites that turn into unique just clutter up my tab and I have them far less than what people are saying.

How do I even price check Time Lost jewels? Their mods are not searchable on the trade site.

good post, most of this is economy understanding and time management.

Not much you can do for SSF outside of optimizing Map juicing and IIR. We need also need to waste time on picking up every type of currency except scrolls in a lot of our play.

Trials are great source of loot, a lot of people miss out on this because they don't appreciate the different game mode mechanics but I often have piles of Trial Attempts in my tabs by the time I run out of maps. if I ever do actually run out, but grabbing the atlas nodes for +10% +1 tier to waystones helps me continually climb in difficulty easier.

The best thing players can do is learn how to customize their loot filters for their specific character. If I'm a caster I dont need to really worry about big crossbows of maces ever -hide all bases. Then I can focus on my top 3 base choices I would like (sigil of power staff, wand, offhand). Trading is also a time sink, so its important to not try selling a bunch of 1 ex off build junk you found.

A good thing I didn't notice was Jewellery (ring/ammy/belt), All jewellery is rare and important, the base might not even matter when you get godly rolls.

NaturalCard1

Note: for sekhemas, if you get 39% total reduced merchant prices, and a ton of + merchant choices, you can get the -50% merchant prices boon and the +30% increased relic effect boon, and then reduce the price of everything to 0.

This allows you to not only easily get all minor boons (which is possible with much less investment), but also gets you broken major ones (no traps, no afflictions, full map visibility, etc.), which will also let you get more than enough keys, and lets trade away all your afflictions easily.

Furthermore, at every subsequent merchant, you can then scroll through their relic options and buy any good ones you see (or just buy everything and reforge, but reforging is kinda painful right now). Many relics can sell for 20-50ex pretty easily, and good rolls can go for multiple divs.

This lowers your unique relic drop chance majorly, and sacrifices movement speed, but adds about 1 div per run from the relics you can sell from merchants. I don't have experience with relic drop builds, if you are consistently getting the 2 div one, that's worth more.

And it also lets you farm trial carries really easily, because you are extremely overpowered.

Finally, added satisfaction bonus from buying stuff for 0 cost. Very fun.

Warning note for carries: if you cannot kill the boss with 4+ players before it starts it's oneshot attack, you are screwed. Exit out asap, and retry. The time you have to avoid the attack speeds up the more players you have.

Also, turn off level downscaling.

S10GenericMan1

I've done quite my share of sekhemas runs. 100% relics drops is enough to get 2 relics drops at the end, so I'm not sure why you specify 120ish%. And the desperate alliance relic drop is definitely more than 5%. Not super common but definitely more than that.

How does rarity on gear work in party? The one killing or does it take both rarity/2?

I_cant_chose_F1

Damn thank you will definitly use this

olafian981

How do you get +9 merchant and 120% relic quant? I cant find a room to place them correctly

Opulescence1

Ritual, Citadel chasing, and Trial of Chaos are what I do with Breach on the side when I get a citadel or area with a juicy amount of towers. I sell the Audiences and run the Breachstones.

Definitely not the fastest currency strat, but it's good currency.

GrassWaterDirtHorse1

TY For the guide!

Can you elaborate a little more on selling relics? I've speedrun Sekhemas to the point where my relic chest is full and I'm leaving most of them on the ground because I don't have the premium tabs to start listing most of them. I don't even run that much relic quant since I haven't had a good experience trying to sell them, probably because I don't know what's good or not.

Are there any good pricing guides for these, or particular best-in-class relics affix tiers I should save to sell? I figure there are such a thing as relic affix tiers and differences between relic sizes (ie maximum honor res on large 4-slot relics) even if they don't show.

Also: is increased key quantity/duplication/upgrade worth taking?

Sykotron1

Do you have any suggestions on gearing up progressively? Since replacing one piece always throws off resistances (re-socketing might fix a lot of this) it always means needing a whole new set of gear and the price of gear sky rockets so I'm never sure what to invest in.

StivThe8thDwarf1

Great writing! Just a question: for Citadel Farming, wouldn't be instilling maps the best way to move from map to map in order to search citadel? You get splinters at least that you can sell.

Zaorish91

time you waste doing random shit

Isn't that called "fun" ? XD

crzylgs1

What an incredible guide. Appreciate you taking the time to put together such a great resource.

Isaacvithurston1

My suggestion is get a fast build and just run corrupted T15/T16 as fast as you can and just sell anything worth a div+.

Sitting on about 700 div atm (taking a break) and didn't have to do any of the boring stuff listed here >.<

One thing that i still dont get - how do you when to go from maps to bosees? Are all endgame bosses the same difficulty? If i can speedfarm t15 with boss, how does that compare to endgame boss?

I only ask because i got to the end of trials or whatrver the time dude is and while i 1shot everything, the boss hp doesnt move.

DarkUtensil1

This is amazing. Great work!

RiggityRick1

Just do chaos trials and sell soul cores. If you're doing 10 room ultimatums you'll make an absolute killing. And I find it more fun than mapping

I got a good laugh at this. I was thinking about trying out sehemas for any interesting items but I think I got what I needed. Just one thing to add: the atlas tree in the guide you linked for breach into the "Citadel" section it's not about waystone drop, it's updated to scale way more with tablets.

Bro. If i can sell the temporalis relic for 100d, dm me for cut. I hope i didn’t vendor it xdd

yxalitis1

But what about killing monsters and such?

myst3r10us_str4ng3r1

Why the /trade 820 channel specifically?

Chikenuget1

Damn people really sell the last floor coin... shame you cant override the relic loadout. After reading this, I bought one 30ex coin got to the boss in maybe 10 minutes. It's really tough to say if one relic drop roll / whatever crap shoot keys they picked up on their run is better than tailoring your own run + multi drop boss relic. The first three floors sometimes do feel like such a slog....

But also bought coins make it even less likely to offer a good carry service...

zera_bloodwinter1

Hell of an information drop. Thank you so very much!!!

That's nice and all, but I prefer to have fun...
