Why is stun not as popular as freeze?
In my mind stun and freeze is kinda the same, one for phys and one for cold. But freeze is a lot more popular than stun right now. Why is this?
I guess because phys skills are not as meta as cold? Also the best stun passives are on the left bottom, and melee is not in great state. Have you tried any stun builds that feels good?

When you stun bosses they start throwing it back and juke your next attack. Freeze just stops them in place and lasts longer on a lot of enemies too.
I hate stunning and then missing my next plasma blast.
Stun have most of the nodes on the warrior area and the class is a bit worse than the others, beside having a shield according to Mark lol Also most of the skills convert the dmg, making it harder to stun. Freeze on the other hand lock target in place instead of that dumb backwards animation stun have; has cast on freeze and herald of ice to synergyze and it's near all popular and just a bit stronger ascendancies...
Another question: Are the monsters immune to stun after being stunned? If yes how long is that duration? Does it apply to all monsters or just some rarity?
Phys damage sucks lol, that's really all it is. Monk and sorc are elemental to their core, and there's not many skills worth using with no innate conversion.
A lot of heavy stun based mechanics are based around priming for stun and then using the skill to heavy stun. Outside of bosses (and even on bosses), it's very, very, very easy to just immediately heavy stun enemies if you're stacking stun, functionally killing a lot of combos.
There's no way to extend the stun duration, so on bosses it frequently only really lets you get 1-2 big attacks off before they're back up and have the huge temporary bonus to stun.
Stunning most enemies knocks them back, meaning that you often have to chase down the mobs you just stunned, wasting more DPS time.
A handful of bosses are extremely resistant to stun in a way that, while not bricking stun builds, makes them miserable to play.
Most stun mechanics are based around setting up the stun and then doing something big, which is a complete waste of time and liable to kill you in maps.
It's an interesting idea for the mechanic and has some cool/neat interactions, but largely it feels like absolute swamp ass and like it needs a ton of polish and love to be even remotely on-par with something like freeze.
There's no herald of stun.
In addition to what others have said: Killing frozen mobs doesnβt leave corpses, which removes like 90% of scary on death mechanics. Playing a freeze sorc and Iβve not died to an on-death mechanic since I got my build rolling.
Need a herald of stun that brain bursts and blows up heavy stunned enemies

Monk is most popular along with quarterstaff so makes aren't really getting a look in as much now
The variation in stun duration and animation makes it hard to play with. Some monsters get a huge knockback and then a 'stand back up' animation that seems to me like moving back to the location of the stun, which can mess up aim and also makes me think I need to kite or roll. I think some monsters can act during stuns, like on the ekbab big bone dog + caster dude fight I think the caster blinked while about halfway through his stun. I'm playing bonestorm so I don't have a problem with missing melee attacks b/c of a stun, but its still just a poorly chosen animation.
Otherwise its just lack of good tree and skill support. I was excited about lucky damage to stunned enemies and did the math and that's 5%, and 10% if heft worked. Combat frenzy doesn't look for stuns. There's a node for endurance charge on stunning a rare or unique, so that's what, a couple charges a map?
Even ignoring everything everyone has already said - stun is tied to a weak and unpopular area of the tree, freeze is not.

When you're freezing enemies, you have access to Herald of Ice, which is arguably the best skill in the game for clear speed. That will be making a huge difference.
