Tankiest character possible ?
So I'm really enjoying HCSSF currently, but was wondering if there is any unkillable characters out there, I'm talking going AFK in boss fights, tanking slams and even taking on death effects in t16 maps.
My current concept is MOM infernalist. You scale from both Mana and ES using the 2 infernalist nodes to gain both based on life. So if you have items with mana + life + es you scale multiple defence values. There is also lots of nodes that give mana and ES or mana regen and ES.
Assume you have reasonable gear but nothing crazy you could be at 8k ES and 2k Mana. This with mom becomes 10k total or using grim feast and mana resonate(via shock from storm mages) up to possible 20k. You could technically hit like 26k if you get some really strong gear. You then also take some block nodes with a big shield to cap block and get max fire res.
Is there any concepts out there actually able to tank a slam currently ?

Ironically, archmage spark is the tankiest build. You can see them are the highest level too. If you kill the mob as soon as they spawn, then you will be safe.
If you afk, even with 20k EHP, you won’t survive in T16. Just see how many people are killed while pulling the levers. I have 10k EHP, but can die very easily if I don’t kill the mobs first.
Not to mention, pinnacle boss have some one shot mechanism regardless of your defense.
So all in all, offense is the best defense in poe2
I don’t know the answer to your question, but I do have some thoughts on your answer. I’m not sure that taking the infernalist nodes are actually worth it for this purpose. Life, Mana and ES are all prefixes, and getting a good ES value on a gear slot requires 2 prefixes, or 3 if you don’t have top tier rolls of flat and percent ES. I haven’t done the math, but I imagine that the life->ES conversion is low enough you’d rather just skip the life prefixes entirely and get more ES. If you’re skipping all the life though, then the life->mana is probably not worth taking either.
You might find value out of using the Atziri’s disdain helmet to gain life as max ES, and the downside of damage skipping ES to hit life is handled by MOM. I’m not sure what the best use case for this combo is if you’re just looking for pure ehp.
I'd go Max block with that spell on block shield + 60% evasion and you basically besides aoe and bosses cannot get hit anymore. Turtle barb for the adcendany
Issue here is recovery. PoE 2 makes it very hard to get unconditional recovery.
At about 10k hp, nothing in the game is going to oneshot you (aside from t4 arbiter)y
The issue is successive hits.
PoE makes it fairly easy to get life regen, recoup, mana regen and so on.
The only unconditional form of regen in PoE2 that is really good is mana regen. That‘s why MoM is this good.
You don’t need 30k ES. You are fine with 15-20k mana, low mana cost skill and copious amounts of recovery.
You still wont reach immortality as devs have stated goal to prevent that.
Tldr: issue is unconditional recovery being inaccessible and recoup being nerved
Ok so Im no expert at all but a ln attribute stacker gemling with es sounds pretty tanky, aim level 52odd with 475 strength and have 3k hp Im thinking of getting the es nodes and go for the evasion nodes while stacking strength while travelling, the plan is lots of hp high evasion and es on top, if I can get to mind over matter lastly Ill try that too.
Im hoping for a tanky toon that wont die so quickly as my ice strike monk and spark sorcerer 🤞
Energy shield builds on Infernalist. There is no contest.
going against what everyone else here said, i think its alkaizer's recent character gemling auto attacker with hotg. about 10k hp, he was ssf hc but i see no reason you couldn't also throw a defiance of destiny on and with that amount of health it becomes just as ridiculous as it was in poe 1. also like 85+ all ele res + has a shield on.
no idea how the armor pans out tho since he was never one to make detailed guides or show much info
You can't make an 'unkillable' character in a game with guaranteed one-hit-kill attacks.
A mere campaign mob, the River Hag, can kill even the best-geared character with the bubble if you stay still for 3 seconds. Some of the bosses have guaranteed one-shot mechanics, like the flame field from Arbiter (the one with the blue corridor).
Technically, when talking about slams, you can use that unique armor "50% chance to avoid death from hits" and rely on your luck :)

Best I could do in pob was 80k~ eHP, 24kish? Max phys hit.
Infernalist, mom, atziri disdain, life stacking, 60 block the surrender, defiance of destiny, mirror tier life+energy shield/Armou+str items, breach rings and non corrupted max ingenuity.
Ended up with 3kish mana for archmage.
Had to edit item to input the mana and spirit gained from infernalist nodes.
Did not try %max life amulet instead, just because of the recovery.
My reasoning to use defiance of destiny is assuming it works like in Poe1. If you have life reserved, the life recovered accounts for your maximum life, not the unreserved portion. So even tho you only have 25% unreserved, you heal for 10% of 75% life.
Gemling life stacker with surrender and defiance might heal better just from the sheer amount of max life you can get. But infernalist can shift damage.
Turtle charm + Svalinn + Acrobatic + Barrow Dweller
If you can cap both block and evade, you will pretty much impossible to die from hit.
thats not that high honestly. ghostwrithe easily lets you achieve like 16-17k es (no mom, no grim feast needed) without much investment with CI. and that still is not unkillable
Reduced duration scaling titan with ES + ghost dance has crazy recovery, you can use ember fusillade for offense as it scales well with reduced duration also. Dont think its a fully solved build yet but I saw Jungroan doing well with it in SSFHC
Probably a reduced duration Titian with Ghost dance acrobatics evasion and a high es pool. Might not be able to fit that all in so maybe just any high es ghost dance evasion character.
There was a 5k per second regen titan build here a few days ago. 8-9k hp to tank boss hits, raw unbuffed , non crit boss damage starts at 4k i think so 8k with some crit bonus reduction should about do it for most slams. I saw him stand still on t17 maps and be afk.
I’m running an infernalist chaos dot/minion hybrid.
Between the hound taking 20% of my damage, a stupid amount of life regen/recoup/% life heal on kill/ES, I’m pulling entire maps, and it’s glorious.
I’m only on t9, but it’s been a wrecking ball.
