Is anyone still trying to make thorns work?
In my eternal quest to kill things by getting hit I started leveling a Warbringer to try thorns out, but then I shelved it for a while to push my first character up further and try clearing the various endgame bosses.
Now that I've come back to it, I see that they "fixed" Shield Wall so you can't break its armor anymore, which seemed like a major source of power for what I was seeing before. If anyone is still working with thorns, what does your build look like?

Yo, yes I am trying it with a witchhunter cuz of the explody ascendancy. My warbringer experiment failed hard as I couldn't clear at all with it
Try magma barrier, its very similar playstyle but easier to scale.
There are some nice ubiques that make your thorns dmg always crit.
Block counts as being hit.
Ive also rhought about tinkering with a max block magma barier+thorns build with avatar of fire
I want to give it another try, but its so annoying respec so I cant find strength to do it, I want to check buffed plate scavenging plus all thorn nodes plus bramblejack, I really wish they didnt nerf key node that returned % of damage that was in promo materials
Its shit. Use resonance shield, break armour get scavenged plating with the unique helmet that applies thorns to damage to all hitting spells and skills and play witchhunted for the 10% explode with decimating strike.
Pretty good but its shit.
Pure thorns are dead until scavenging plating gets melee tag if it ever happens, then you could scale it's level to get fairly huge thorns damage. With some skill duration that buff can last like 15+ seconds.
Tryd as Warnbringer, different variations various Times.
Go for Armour scavanger. Stat in Gear ist cheap but low in comparison.
Strongest around act3, low Maps are doable, high Maps are not.
I dont think Warnbringer ist the best choice. You dont realy need the Block Thing, or Armour Break.
Titan witchhunter and gemling all give more survivial and damage Options.
Best lategame is probably infernalist. Painatunement, Double pickaxe, Mom.
Corpswade and exploding warcrys somewhat emulate what normal builds do for clear at the cost of taking over the identity.
1/10 Clear, 3/10 bossing, do not Touch.
Mathil did and has a video about it.
It was completely terrible.
it's a dead archetype unless they add some sort of aoe mechanic to it. The clear will always be ass even if the damage is good.
Oh, I am! It seems pretty clear that a PURE thorns build isn't gonna work. You can't walk through a map and laugh while everything hits you and dies.
But I am currently using a hybrid build that relies heavily on defense, while taking all the thorns passives and stacking it as high as possible. Using Magma Barrier for most of my damage, I've just grabbed all the shield block nodes within reach of the thorns nodes, especially the one that adds additional damage for block chance. Then just stack block, armor, and thorns, while getting Magma Barrier's skill level as high as possible. This build does NOT focus on armor break for damage, so that adds a lot of freedom to redistribute those passives (although it does use scavenged plating, but doesn't need to worry much about getting enough). So far it's working really well in early maps, not sure if it'll scale very well. And i am running into mana problems now, not sure how i wanna handle that. But it's fun to do something a little different, and definitely works well enough to be playable, even if it's not an elite build.
Poison thorns Pathfinder?
People have made big explodey molten barriers, which isn't exactly the same but is in a similar vein

This guy has been doing thorns a while. He's using blood mage and wind dancer I think.
