What I did to start enjoying maps again
As I've gotten older, I've begun to understand "When given the chance, players will optimize the fun out of a game" more and more. With how the endgame of PoE2 is structured right now, this can be extremely easy, especially with maps I found. I noticed I was getting exhausted trying to figure out what to do what order to go etc etc, so I realized I was starting to run into this issue.
What I did was this: T14 maps go into towers, T16 maybe if it's corrupted/irradiated or both, and T15 for everything else. No 1-2 hour juicing prep/hours of setting up maps for the optimal layout. I get a precursor I throw a precursor in a tower.
The sheer fact I'm playing more means I've gotten more income than I ever have trying to play optimally. And the amount of divine orbs that have dropped from white/blue maps is shocking to even me.
So if you're feeling burnt out/like mapping was becoming a job, give this a try.
Stay sane, expiles

You also care less about random deaths this way. See to many people complain about wanting to quit after they juiced and optimized a map just to get a random death on it wasting all their time and resources making it perfect. While random deaths aren't even a slight hiccup doing it as OP describes because it's just a moment of huh that happened oh well onto the next.
I have been playing this way. Not caring about map mods and just mapping as fast as i can to reach the citadels to get fragments and sell these. I was surprised how many random divine drops i got by doing this. Also i pick every single map i find to then sell for easy gold, so i can flip currency. Combining all this i made like 60 divines in 2 days. Playing like 7 hours a day. But the most important: i had fun.
And i was not doing everything efficiently.
I definitely agree. Yes, you can super prep and super juice and get a huge return. But just running a lot of maps fast is definitely almost just as good and more fun.
This is ironically the actual best way to optimize your game. By playing for fun you are pulling in more currency than everyone that frustrated themselves into playing a way reddit or YouTube told them was best
I literally just alched and went, popping towers along the way and I achieved every bit of content I wanted while others got burnt out and quit complaining the game doesn't have as much content as a game being developed and tested since like 2010
I didn’t realize people actually spent that much time prepping maps lmao
Most wierd thing is i got more divines from like maps 12-13 which were decent and i didnt want to toss em out in compare to juiced t15 and some t16s. Gess its RNG or what ever its called
I’m having problem with waystone sustain, anyone care to share their atlas tree or tips? TIA!
Yep, this is the way.
I will do what I can to optimise my grind.
Then I will search youtube and reddit to optimise it further.
Then I will cut everything that doesn't bring fun, because I have 1 job already, and game is not my job.
I'm a sweat but i'll never do anything i don't enjoy, i delirium t15 every map including towers with completely random maps, path to towers and then search ""rare mon"" in my stash for good maps to do juiced breaches and repeat.
I just exalt and delerium an inventory of maps without looking or thinking when i run out of rare monster affix maps and repeat
I love this for a bunch of reasons but mostly to point out that min maxing the fun out of the game is often the fun of Poe.
I appreciate your post. Some good ol fashion blasting will be in my future. I bet I like running 100 maps in a session. Instead of 20 super perfect maps
I agree, EXCEPT: acquiring lvl 82 bases/lvl 20 gems requires at least some planning. It would be great if you could get lvl 82 monsters with only one of (irradiated, corrupted, t16).
Stop caring so much about it worked for me, then every white stellar, citadel fragment, or divine drop gives incredible dopamine hits every hour or two. Worst case it doesn't take long to get an extra char to maps.
Uhh I just dropped 40div into ritual bosses. Finished that tree.
No more juicing or crafting maps. No more rarity gear.
Just rituals.
Had a record day yesterday of 60div.
Played four hours.
Man I was leveling a gemling post campaign just emptying out my stash of tier 5-11 white and blue maps and I had like 3 divs drop lol. Then I switched to 13+ around level 80 and I have 1-2 drop going to level 88.
I got a steam deck now I just throw whatever in and just give er
100%. I'm still sort-of pathing through weak maps and towers to buff things, but very casually. It's so much more enjoyable
People gotta stop watching YouTube and Twitch and just do what they want, only looking up solutions when they're totally stuck
People just figuring out what I said in many other threads. Finally.
Poe2s version of alch and go. Told you.
This post is SO important imo, ty OP
I’ve done this except lvl 14 corrupted into the towers. Also bought a ton of guilt delirium and used em on all my waystones, corrupt them all, 14s go into towers -15-16 for normal maps, and then if there is already delirium I’ll use a jived up 15 map. We
I don’t worry about juicing maps at all - I have gotten a ton of citadels, log books, breach, etc.
I unfortunately have yet to see a single log book boss after prolly 8-9 log books.
Had one ritual boss fight and died…. Pissed me off and stopped playing a couple days.
I've been doing mass juicing, taking like 10 mind for a 50 min batch - alvo, regal, exalt until 6 mods, adding distilled emotions and vaaling all at once.
I separate level 16 for irradiated and corrupted map for level 82, the 14 I add to a dump tab and the rest I separate between good maps and bad maps (rarity, quantity, rare monsters amount). Bad maps I separate for nodes without interesting stuff or maps I died in, and the good ones for good nodes.
But that's the most of what I do, and I think that's very ok by me tbh. It's kind of a bit of optimization that gives some results and doesn't burn me out
i just throw find any tower clusters and then use any quant tablet(doesnt matter what it is, even irradiated and expedition etc. because these are very self sustainable) and then just path towards citadels. they wont give you super optimal quant numbers but they do give you some especilly with the right atlas tree. i finish non breach maps with my deadeye in 2-5 minutes. i have timed myself finising some smaller maps in 1m45 seconds if i get lucky with my headhunter giving me movement mods. ironically breach actually slows me down if anything since picking everything up is a hassle and then use 500-600+% waystone chance on citadels and make around 4-8 div per hour depending on how lucky you get. currently have a 200div deadeye build doing this strategy which is more than enough to do anything you would want in the game. u just throw in maps with a lot of pack size, rares, quant/rarity if you can run it, and just blast. cant stand juicing so this is the best option for me, layout doesnt matter usually, dont worry too hard about how juiced the map is, how many breaches are in it, if you got lucky with the quant %, etc. etc.
I just wish mass rolling maps didnt take 5ever.
Gotta alch > exalt > filter unwanted mods > distill > take all good maps > vaal > filter unwanted mods again
Doing that with full quad tabs of maps is annoying.
Mass tablet rolling isn't too bad, but for the love of god PLEASE let us use the poe1 system of selling 3 of the same item to get the same item unid. I'm tired of the reforging bench where we have to wait for an animation AND we have to reroll 1 at a time.
And if I could make a special request, if we unlock a tower, let all the nodes be blue so I can pick and choose which maps I want to run without having to path through crypt, mire, and vaal factory to get to the maps I want to run.
Or even better, let me re run the maps I want to run repeatedly, but I have to use tablets to keep that map juiced. 🙏❤
My flowchart is pretty simple (I only run delirious map, usually 30+%, fully slam all maps 6-mods, vaal t15 for a chance at t16):
- Aim toward orange beam (or any other beam).
- Prefer breach maps toward towers on the way.
- Ritual: level 80+
- Expedition: level 79+
- Towers: lowest tier. Add breach tablet, unless I see the tower is mostly covering traversable nodes, then ritual.
- Towers near citadel: Add at least one % waystone precursor tablet
- Citadel: Run a 550%+ waystone t15 (delirious if you can handle it). Hope to get above 800% in the map for a chance at 3 fragments.
What I did to enjoy mapping again was even simpler! I quit poe2 and went back to poe1 :O
I dont plan anything out honestly lol. I usually smash everything with an alch and vaal. I run random maps and try to save the only +modifier maps for citadels. There arent many maps I wont run
That’s how 99% ppl map
That’s why ppl complain that 50+ div items are unaffordable.
To op : this is what I've been doing personally since hitting T15.
I've heard of the whole juicing setup thingy from people and it immediately sounded like a job to me, stayed away from it and from people talking about it too much and echoing YouTube terminology.
Been having a blast as well! :)
This is the way.
This isn't a solution lol I alch corrupt and go every mao regardless of results hardly ever died made tons of divines doesnt change the fact end game is still boring and tedious compared to poe 1. Yes I did juice some small sets of towers here and there but loot wasn't that much more impactul either.
Game just doesn't do it for me anymore after 400 hours
I didn’t gaf from day one. I use precursors where appropriate, otherwise I just slap some mods on a map and run them. Only thing I toss is burning ground cause screw that cancer. None of this got in my way of making enough or finding enough currency to have my character hitting 1m dps with full rage, and clapping pinnacle bosses. Now any major upgrades are in the 20+ div range and honestly would not make or break my character.
I’d rather run 2-3 min juiced maps than 1 max juiced and have to care about picking anything up besides currency/maps and shards or the random items that could be worth it.
To enjoy the game in general I just play casually while asking for basic information and advice. I don't treat any game like a job, and I play MMOGs that actually require teamwork. I find that you'll always have fun figuring things out, but that is vastly different than blindly following strategy and build guides and then arguing with people over the internet.
Are we supposed to be corrupting maps?
Bruh I haven’t gotten burnt out at all but I’m not doing all that prep stuff either. I literally just do what you do. Good 13 and 14s go into towers and all my good 15s into everything else. Sometimes shit lines up for a juiced up map and I do it but I don’t go out of my way to set it up. I’m at 80% resistances on everything except chaos which is at 70% and I can sustain 140 stacks of demon form. I could probably be doing more but I’m still having a blast. Really can’t wait for the huntress
dude i find a map and upgrade it to magic then upgrade it to rare and slap it in the slot and hope i dont get pwned - and i fucking love it
Beelining to citadels and dropping waystone drop chance in any towers nearby is the only thing that's tolerable to me after 150 hours trying different end game strats. Go in with a 550+ drop chance waystone, make 3-5 div, find the path to the next one.
I wish they added more unique nodes so that this "strategy" was more viable. Like yeah your divines/hour sucks but you partially compensate in other ways.
Right now it's like, i try to find the jewels i need on SSF. So of course i go after forest biomes, which i wouldn't be able to do if i tried to optimize, because you need to constantly be uncovering the fog of war instead of staying in one juiced spot. Problem is, i haven't seen a single jewel from unjuiced forest maps. Literally none. My odds would be much better if i optimized like everybody else.
260hrs in. Haven’t seen a div drop once. Not even for others I’m in maps with. My personal rng with this game is oddly shitty.
I do 15s on everything and 16 on juiced ones. My map sustain is fine to do that I guess 🤷🏻♂️
The biggest thing really is to just play. Just spend as much time as possible actually running things and you’ll be fine.
Dude I can’t even begin to say how much more fun this game has been with just not giving a fuck about juicing maps. I go to citadels, get my three drop and that’s just about 3 divines or more depending on which fragment. With breach stones, and just the absurd amount of exalted orbs I get from chill maps is astounding. I used to think getting a drop of divine was the way to go and as nice as it is it just feels like it never happens. But getting 9 divines because I go to 3 citadels in one day was fucking awesome.
Hell half the time my divines are from shit I least expect non 15s lol.
I mean, they should just remove tablets and towers. The fact you have to spend infinitely more time doing setup to have 1 good map shows the design is bad. There is no valid alch and go method in this game.
Bring back scarabs and let us run the maps we want, period.
Was tired of my deadeye having to avoid certain map mods I sold all his gear rolled a gemling and now I fully juice every map I get instill then corrupt them and just run them. I don’t even look at the mods unless it’s a breach (for more quantity) and for citadels for more waystones
This is what I've been doing too. I see all these people talk about juicing Citadels and using towers in the most optimal way and here's me cruising along chucking whatever into any map just trying to find a weapon upgrade. Still feeling a bit burnt out though. Keen to get some more content.
but doctor this is what I was doing the entire time
Crazy idea that you will enjoy a game more if you just play it instead of worrying about min maxing and optimizing :D Seems like a simple enough choice for me. Some people try so hard to ruin their experience with anything.
Or get someone to sit in your map, get rediculous more loot with just one more person
Yesterday I had 2 deaths in a row to something I did not see. Well prepped maps, well selected and corrupted waystones, all located within 5-6 Towers. This was the point where I changed my approach.
I still go to towers but I dont really pay too much attention on what tablet I put in. O feel like breaches? Or bosses? Just put in the stuff. No idea what to do? Irradiate. I dont look for specific multi tower locations.
I stopped corrupting and sorting waystones. I take t14 and t15, aug and ex them. Search for burning ground to sort them out. Then I just put in a random waystone and run the map. I dont care about modifiers or if the waystone fits to the map.
Further, I put filterblade on very strict and only pick up the highest potential stuff. I dont waste time in crafting if the bases are not hyper promising. I dont reforge anymore after 1000s of quarterstaffs reforged without receiving a single useful one. I only reforge waystones t14 (dont collect below) and breach rings.
I don't leave any run for below 50 ex sales (thanks to the really bad trading system... Sorry if you want to buy my <50 ex stuff).
And suddenly I just play more and plan less. My conclusion: for me the game has way to much "prep your stuff rng combine shitt rng shitty trade crap going on. I just minimized my effort. Now its okay.
Then I just swapped to LE, currently leveling a warpath build which Ican play with mouse only. Such a bliss... Cant wait for April. So much more relaxing :)
That's what I did and it got dry so I took a break
I have 2 regular tabs for maps. 1 for the maps I’ve modded and one dump tab for maps. When I finish all my modded maps I just slam all the maps in the other tab then just run them without really looking at what’s on them.
For the tower tablets I just search for the modifiers I want and throw them in the towers.
Gz, you just discovered alch and going
