Poe 2 froze now win 11 wont load

94

Playing poe 2 this morning and the game froze so I had to do a hard reset. This is the first time this has happened. Now I can't get windows 11 to load. When I exit bios it goes right back into it.

Any thoughts? Did I corrupt my OS?

Vaal the computer

This needs more attention. It got 48 minutes and only 9 likes as of me writing this comment for reference.

kukurbitak1

Poe probably froze because you had an issue with a component.

jafarykos1

Make sure your boot drive is the drive labeled windows boot manager.

My pc has started randomly reordering the boot drives and sticking a different drive as the first boot drive

hannes00001

what you have SSD or HDD died that had windows boot files. Look does it detect harddrive in bios

lukaisthegoatx1

Someone help this man

DesPeredes1

Reinstall your win 11 24h2 to 23h2

PraiseTheSun10231

Look at the storage tab and make sure the drive your OS is on is being recognized.

BoozeAddict1

I agree with others, you probably misclicked and vaaled your ssd. Try booting to safe mode, if it doesn't work, reinstall windows (or try the repair tool).

Thiel6191

Shut down the pc, unplug it or flip the power switch in the back, press the power button to drain the residual power for a few seconds. Then turn it back on and see if it fixes.

crazydotogamer1231

let me guess, your boot drive is a sata ssd?

Zeropreach1

Unplug your hard drive and plug it in again.

OrchidThis58221

Not only D4 killer, but turns out also Win11 killer, hey..

jjkikolp1

Did you use this sidekick tool by any chance?

xiaocl0ud1

Take out your ssd or nvme and reseat it back. Had same issue for some reason…

no-gd1

The same thing happened to me yesterday. Not while playing Poe 2, but I’ve put 300+ hours into the game. Still have not found a fix.

Scetchye1

I had something similiar happen to me last night where my PC just froze and after forced reset my screens didn't turn on. This morning I reseted BIOS by removing the battery and got to BIOS but it didnt show me my SSD so I took out the SSD and put it back, did the same thing with 1 RAM and when I finally got to windows with my 2nd monitor I re-installed GPU drivers and voilá.

Must4Die1

You need to do a complete shutdown of your computer, turn everything off and turn on again and it should be working, POE did the same to my computer, that's the reason I am not playing it anymore

Go see your ssd health now and you should have at least 1 new integrity error

saint_dust1

Bro, the freeze then having to hard reset bricked my Nuc 11. I can't even get into bios or get any life except the green light on the mobo.

ikonis1

Know what's funny? PoE rebooted my computer last night..... came back without internet.... no networking whatsoever. No DHCP ip given.... fixed THAT, then dnsclient wouldn't start.....

Nothing to fix it, except format the damn drive.

So yeah, poe breaks shit. Literally nothing else prior just.... reboots my computer... or hard locks it.

Luckily, all important shit is on a different drive than my windows install. Just ridiculous that a freaking game causes so many issues.

And yea, I'm sure there was an update in the background for windows. And that is what got corrupted. But the reboot wouldn't have happened except for poe.

hazmatpoodle1

Can you try booting without any peripherals plugged in? As people have mentioned the boot order needs the ssd listed first and for some reason it may be getting stuck trying to boot from a USB you have plugged in or a mouse/keyboard etc.

diztirub11

Easiest thing to try is using an USB stick and reinstall Windows. If you have all your data on one partition you will lose everything so make sure to backup using another computer if you have anything important locally stored.

There are ways to use an USB stick as a bootable device as well, meaning booting Windows from the USB. (If this option would work for you without blue screens, that probably means your drive is failing)

cholinyo1

I think poe2 also broke my pc… im getting more and more bsod and ctd. Worked fine before this game came now i have problems with all my games

ThisDNE1

Surprised no one has asked this, but what GPU are you using and if it's NVIDIA are you running driver 572.16?

Here's a link pertaining to said boot loops caused by this driver. May not apply to you, but others in the thread may need to see it.

https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/s/KR4aHlMapg

I had this issue on one of my pcs, boot into safe mode with networking and uninstall the driver with DDU. Use Game ready driver 566 instead.

(edit - I just saw OP mention they're on a 1070. I hope this is the issue as it's easily fixable if you can get into safe mode)

Total-Industry58101

Yeah this aint poe's fault

Taylor_Swifty131

As others have said I would bet on it being a drive issue and PoE just happened to be what you were doing at the time. Try what the others have said, reseating the drive etc.

But if none of that seems to be working something you can try if you have another computer is just putting linux on a flash drive (there are tons of tutorials if you cant work it out or dont know how), booting into that and then trying to open the drive to see if you can access your files. Unless you have bitlocker or some shit on, you can just double click the drive and access it. You can use this to back up your files/games to another drive if you want to. Once you are done you can just turn it off and pull the flash drive out, it won't install linux to your machine or anything like that unless you tell it to, any changes you make (copying or deleting files) will of course stay on the drives you do that to though..

Can use kubuntu or something similar as its simple and looks like windows.

Xanthon1

Pretty sure it has nothing to do with PoE2. It just so happens your PC died while playing the game.

kyxaa1

"I have a computer issue. I know, I'll contact the POE 2 subreddit. They'll know what to do."

Klawkwerk1

Happened to me last night too. System crashed, booted to bios, but then It saved and restarted just fine.

kilotone1

overheating?

Yoshbyte1

This is just punishment for using windows prolly. My guess is defective fan or drive not being detected making you boot to bios and not system but there isn’t enough info to tell. I used to be a system builder, if you want reply and I can try to help you troubleshoot

Practical-Banana73291

Are you using the task manager detail tabs to set the affinity of POE2? Only solution I’ve found to not completely freeze my computer occasionally. You uncheck processor 0 and 1 so that way POE2 doesn’t use all of your available processors.

llSatan_1

Same problem with hard freez. I use Process Lasso to not allow poe2 fully load my first 2 pc cores. Now my pc will not fully freez but game hard stuck anyway. So ill wait when they fix this issue.

Heaz41

Could be an issue with Windows11 update 24h2. Friend had similar issue, swapped ssd pc started working again.

HungarianDan1

I've had this happen, and I had to cold boot the PC. Simply cut the power to the power supply, (there is normal a switch you can toggle) wait for about thirty seconds and turn it back on. Should clear the cache and get you up running.

Remarkable_Material31

Dead drive dude, happened to me with an early ssd with Skyrim when it came out

JinpachiNextPlease1

Just some quick checks for ya: If you have a USB plugged in - remove it.

If you can - remove the BIOS battery on the Motherboard (after unplugging the computer of course and grounding yourself electrically) hit the power button like 5 times. Wait a minute or so and place the battery back in the boot it up. Sometimes the battery can come unseated or just decide to be obtuse.

While you're in there clear the dust out of any has accumulated incase of over heating.

If your hard drive is a transplant from a previous machine - you may need to do a fresh install of Windows. Otherwise ignore this.

You could try and move the hard drive to another slot internally, but make sure you update that in the BIOS.

Otherwise could just be the run of the mill hardware failure.

Hopefully you've had the computer off while you're at work. So if it boots up normally when you get home, it could be a heat/cooling issue.

HekaDooM1

This is why we don't vaal the operating system

_yKn0t1

OH MY GOD THIS HAPPENED TO ME LAST YEAR. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH SAMSUNG 998 nVME. NOTHING TO DO WITH POE2.

you will need a flash drive to download/boot Linux mint. When you boot Linux mint, you will have access to your nVME data, and can back it up. Consider this nVME as dead.

-SpliT1

Had a cpu issue with the recent ein 11 Update but they fixed it in the last patch..

Poe won't be the issue in general I think ..

Do you limit your GPU usage or something like OC or UV ?

I had issues with UV as well in Poe 2

karmazynowy_piekarz1

I had freezing problems to. Lots of us have. Google for the fixes. BES is working well.

shooki31

Irrelevant, but up your RAM speed

Shiriiin13171

I had the exact same issue after getting frozen. I reset my PC, and my hard disk got damaged. Usually, I am able to boot up a Linux and get out my info, but this time, I couldn't and lost some data.
I do not think it is the driver or anything like that (at least, I've never seen such incidents) as they said, installing new OS works, but in my case it happened again and i changed the SSD :/

Himistyr1

I have had the exact same thing happen to me a few months ago, also made a post about it and only 1 guy responded to me saying i just dont know shit about computers. I had te flash my BIOS and that fixed the issue for me. To be fair though, never had issues with poe2 after the BIOS flash.

Don't know what this game is doing with pc's that fucks up the boot but oh well.

TheIhsaan71

Check if your motherboard has on board integrated graphics. This will mean you can unplug the graphics card and plug directly into the motherboard this will tell us if your graphics card is fried or its something else.

Sarenai71

It’s not just you OP. There are over 900 pages (Thread 1, Thread 2) of users on the POE 2 support forums who are having this same issue or something similar, including myself.

I’m afraid this game has damaged my brand new PC

My computer does the same thing. Like hard drive just disappears requiring a reboot whereby it is seen again. Win11 ...sucks

warzone_afro1

this happened to me too. i had to reinstall windows to fix it. the root issue may be one of my components but a reinstall fixed. if you try to restart a few times it will send you to a windows recover screen where youll have an option to reinstall windows or if you have a system backup you can load from that.

SixofClubs61

I had to update my drivers 2 days ago. Game stopped working with win11 update
