Turning Mana Remnants with Mind Over Matter into pseudo-Grim Feast on Cold Chrono
I'm running a cold chronomancer build without archmage or any lightning damage with mind over matter and eldritch battery.
I had an idea of using mana remnants while mapping to replenish my mana, but I don't see a way to cleanly and consistently apply shock ailment while sticking to cold spells currently.
My understanding is that the more lightning damage you have, the more likely you are to inflict the shock ailment. I have a high critical hit chance, but mana remnants require killing a shocked enemy.
The options I have looked into:
- Painter's Servant - Converts portion of elemental damage into fire/lightning. The damage drop off from using this is significant
- Mana tempest - The mana cost of this scales with mana, and you have to be within the circle to benefit from the damage. Maybe converting portion into life cost? I see myself dying to this.
- Put a lightning spell somewhere. I experimented with ball lightning, but the shock duration is too short with my setup to keep shock up long enough to finish with frostbolt spam / eye of winter. Maybe spark would be better? I would prefer not to as I want the shock to be passively applied during my main clear skills (frostbolt / eye of winter).
- Whisper of the Brotherhood - Converts 100% of cold damage to lightning
I'm not trying to solve a specific problem for my current build as much as I am trying to theorycraft using a synergy between Mana Remnants with Mind Over Matter to sustain effective HP during mapping. For my current build, this doesn't really make sense, but maybe a dual-tri element sorcercess build. Are there any other builds out there that use this synergy?

I don't really see the point of this when mana on kill jewels exist. Two 2% jewels should be able to sustain any mana pool while clearing.
Consistent options are going to be whispers or shocked ground
The easiest access to shocked ground afaik is lightning warp when using ball lightning
I only see mana remnants being useful for characters that use life to cast skills and run Mind over Matter for survivability. If you don't do this, the mana remnants are pretty useless. Just take 4% mana recovered on kill from jewels and you'll be much better than with mana remnants.
It doesnt work like grim feast because you're using your mana to cast spells in the first place. Whatever you overflowed your mana to, will be spent as soon as you used a skill, so you're back to where you started. The primary use for Mana Remnants is, again, just recovering mana on kill, which jewels already do - you dont even need to pick up anything for it, just instant gratification.
Also, fitting shock/lightning damage into any build is not hard at all. Its just literally activating Archmage, no need for painter's servant or whatever shenanigans you want.
Time-lost Mana on kill jewel is the only thing you need.
With a cheap price, you can get 2-4% per socket plus the bonus that comes with it.
Mana Remnant is too unreliable for me at its current state.
