Are you impressed by GGG?
I have over 1700 hours in Diablo IV.
To me, nothing else on the short list of 8-9-10 industry-standard recommendations we have in this genre have come close.
But I recently started playing POE2 (didn’t like 1) and I am beyond blown away by this game.
From a technical standpoint, this is a world-class ARPG experience.
Detail, combat, sound, creativity…absolutely all on another level.
Hardware optimization should still be coming along and of course everyone has their input on changes and additions - but, really, no other ARPG looks and feels like this.
I don’t play RPGs or JRPGs, but I saw that LS lost money in 2022 before revenue went up ~1780% after Baldur’s Gate 3, so it’s not the only example of tremendous competence by smaller teams in a similar genre, but it's not Blizzard money.
I saw on GGG’s vary basic front-end that they are looking to hire “for all roles” and presumably they’ve had some contracting and freelancing, but I think what they did here with their resources is award-winning, really remarkable.

Agree.. Its a bit harder to get into than Diablo.. But comparing to Diablo4, its like POE2 is for the adults..
The chat in POE2 however.. Different story.
As a huge D2 and D4 nerd who leans more towards D2, I love POE2. Feels very reminiscent. I see a lot of complaints about end game but compared to D4 it already feels more robust with a lot more on the way.
I played Diablo V for 40h or something because it‘s usually not my genre. End of January i deleted CS2 and gave POE2 a ahot.
This game sucked me in since no other before and i‘ve been gaming since early 2000s. I put in 150h in 1,5 months while working full time.
I‘m sure a lot of POE veterans find negatives on the game but for me it‘s nothing but amazing.
While I've played like 200ish hours of PoE1 over 4ish leagues, it never clicked for me. PoE2 on the otherhand clicked immediately, and I attribute it to WASD mostly. I hsted especially bosses in PoE because moving and aiming with the same thing is just ass after a youth of FPS games. Can't wait for it to be fleshed out, I can see myself playing every league for a long time.
I'm impressed by GGG, but because of the other Path of Exile game. I hope they will impress me again in 0.2.0.
GGG is the best developer in the industry in my mind.
Never played poe-1, but so far my only complaint about Poe2 is how long they're waiting to roll out the incoming update. I've been having a tonne of fun with the game.
Poe1 > LE > PoE2 > D2R > TL:I > D3 > D4
You haven’t seen their full strength yet. Soon they will hit a release cadence of a major content update every 3-4 months. It’s not just that they built this incredible game - they also have the technical prowess to maintain a rapid pace of development in a released product that puts other studios to shame.
It’s the best ARPG released since Diablo 2. I can’t even comprehend 1700 hours playing D4. They’re not the same ballpark, not the same sport, and not even the same solar system
By the game on the face of it, from like the way GGG shows it off? Absolutely 100%.
By what the game actually is in the endgame and all the clips posted of it. Not at all, I'm immensely disappointed and my hopes of a fun, engaging, balanced endgame are very low at the moment. Barring myself from engaging with the game's mechanics (ie just gimping) is not a solution for me either, the whole point of these games is to experiment with different game systems and stuff. And sure it's a beta, balance comes last, but with the marketing and stuff that Early Access has had and is getting they're really going to have a hard time just ripping the band-aid off so I'm kinda pessimistic it will be done.
Luckily the campaign experience is still shaping up to be pretty damn good so I'll still have replays of that but only about as often as I replay a game like Dark Souls instead of investing the time into PoE2 like I did early PoE1.
My first time playing ARPG. It was very funny 700 hours. But i am a little bit disappointed that updates taking so long.
Love the game, not impressed with the support. I sent a ticket mid December and received only 1 reply (I have not sent follow up emails at all). It was about me not receiving the physical goods from the highest tier pack.
I ended up charging back earlier this month and using a friend’s key to start over. I don’t want to support a company that takes this long to reply and doesn’t deliver on promised goods.
When PoE2 is fully operational, it will destroy our planet. No one will be working, getting married, having children, eating, bathing...
I have been impressed by GGG since 2011 when I 1st glimpsed POE. They have continued to blow me away time after time year after year.
Even when I don't like the road they take to get somewhere when it all shakes out it comes out beautifully.
I’m on the same page, from a technical standpoint etc the “detail, combat, sound, creativity” amazing game.
What turns me off. Is inventory management and item logistics. 8 square items, 2,6,1 it’s all over. And they basically kept the same amount of inventory space from Diablo 2 30 years ago.
It’s just bizarre to me I don’t even have other words anymore.
Like I’m picking up a specific white base item to slam alch orbs, and or also picking up xyz to gamble on.
What I See is a game that wants me to take a large volume of items, and chance/gamble my way to something nice.
Well for that to actually work, I need to pick up a lot of items for volume gambling it’s just plain math at this point. So many items in fact, that they recommend I get a third party document or make my own, to filter out the drops…..
What i also see is them basically bottle necking the collection of everything, in maps which is the only thing to do currently in end game, I get 6 portals. That’s like 35 items to smash currency into.
I like the Diablo 4 inventory pages, a right click moves it all around. No holding control etc. it’s smooth not having to deal with clicking individual currencies all over because that feels ancient now.
I'm ridiculously into this game, and I didn't play the first PoE either. I used to play WoW back in the day, and it scratches the same itch for me of chasing items and squeezing out as much in the way of positive stats as I possibly can. The downside is that requires a rather high investment of time, but unlike WoW, you don't have to turn up for raids at a certain time and devote your evenings to it. I could if I wanted to take a few weeks off and I wouldn't miss anything.
Not really.
I love the game, don’t get me wrong. But everything from absurd MTX prices to poorly thought out and balanced uniques, and a really boring story mean it’s hard for me to truly be impressed.
Diablo has fallen a long way in recent years, but their world and story is much more compelling, and a lot of their legendaries, at least before D4, at least felt unique and inspired. Some of PoE’s uniques are basically just “here’s a bunch of one stat that’s available from other sources”.
Never played poe 1, did pay a few weeks of diablo 4 when released and d2 resurrected for about the same time. Got bored quick and never looked back.
Poe 2 ignited my passion for gaming that I’d never experience again. I’ve tried baldurs gate, cyberpunk etc. over the years but never really got into them. But poe 2? It’s like I’m back in school playing wow shooting shit with my mates and raiding black temple.
I’ve spent way too many hours playing but I don’t regret it a bit. Only thing I regret (a bit) is giving everything away few weeks ago when I thought reset was coming sooner. I just bought a new monitor and applied for couple vacation days now that we know the date.
I’m very impressed how good a game they have made. I never tried poe 1 mainly because it seemed overwhelming and everyone seemed to have played it for a decade. Glad I gave poe 2 a chance.
Not impressed by GGG since poe2. It's been a cluster of blizzard similarity
Impressed by what exactly, their terrible handling of this EA so far?
Creativity and details from technical point are world class, really?
Opposite for me. Probably too high of expectations for EA. I think endgame is really bad. I see a lot of stubborn design choices. Its a good game but its not going to be great for another 2 years. And I haven’t really been impressed with the lack of quality upgrades since December.
not really. The campaign was a lot of fun, but end game is just a less good poe1 between what they did with the currencies and their continued denial of the need for a auction house.
I've played PoE1 on and off since release. Some things I liked others I didn't. Aside from growing up on diablo 1 and 2, PoE1 has always been my favorite in the genre. PoE2 took that spot 2 days after EA release. There is a lot they still need to work on, but it's an amazing game. Don't think I'll ever play a non WASD isometric arpg again.
Nah. The unoptimised shit of a game that will never get optimised because of content creep
It’s hard for games to blow me away anymore since I’m old fuck but touching PoE2 for the first time and experiencing wasd movement in a an ARPG I was instantly hooked. I played every minute I had of free time and lost sleep racking up 340 hours in 2 months. Visually stunning, the bosses the vibe. The first act. All so good.
I just wish it was complete. Finishing act 3 when the story is getting interesting just go back to act 1 was such a buzz kill. The game is so good I plowed through again.
I enjoyed end game until I did everything multiple times then felt it was time to put the game down. But yes loved every minute of it.
Im a newcomer, primarily playing Guild Wars 2 (& 1) by ArenaNet and various other non-RPG games, never touched a real isometric ARPG in my life. I can't put this one down. Given how enthusiastic and loyal PoE1 fans are and how much I have enjoyed this game, even with all its numerous flaws, I am absolutely Exile-pilled and cant wait for the rest of the game.
Not really, if anything the current situation is a big mess. Ofc I believe they can succed and solve all the issues with their creeped up project.
But no, they have a lot to show to convince me yet.
This is my first ARPG so I can't compare it to other games. But I have been playing for months and still get excited to start a new build after work or farm currency.
As for GGG the quality of communication from them so far is pretty impressive. I like what I have seen. I'm sure veterans of the game don't agree with me but I think it's better than most games.
The microtransactions are very well done. They don't feel toxic so far. I was happy with my 30$ of credit for early access. I got some cool tabs 😎
Now that you are into POE2 you should try POE1 again. Its way more depth and even more mature as some call it here. I really enjoy both, POE2 still has a long way to go but I see a bright future for it
Honestly, I'm going to go against the grain and say that while the game is great. There's a lot decisions GGG has made that is not only against well accepted industry standards but also just plain punishing to players.
Stuff that normally players wouldn't put up with in a new studio, everyone here just ignores cuz of GGGs track record.
I can't remember the last time I played a big title game that didn't have in game trading, inventory sorting, built in loot options (filters), independent loot drops when in a party, checkpoints in maps that didn't respawn the whole map, the list goes on.
I remember reading a post about how much ppl loved the campaign, and frankly I thought act 3 map lengths (I'm looking at u waterways) is just too long and boring for no apparent reason. I've leveled 6 characters to end game and each time was agony.
That said i have 400 hours in the game and will continue to play. But no I'm not gonna ignore all the glaring faults that other studios have figured out decades ago.
I'm impressed by them, but every that they have done has more important shown how disappointed I am in Blizzard, given how a game that SHOULD be better and costs more is not nearly as good
For PoE1? Hell yeah.
For PoE2? No, not even close. It's an extremely high quality game purposefully designed to be the most boring in the genre. Maybe it'll change in a few years, dunno. For now though I'm incredibly disappointed.
LOL GGG is not some small indy company. They are owned by Tencent. Their team is probably the same size as the D4 team.
Yes
To me you are not wrong. Even as a huge D4 player I see what POE2 could become. What really impresses me: in POE2 you can be rich, in D4 even if you are it just feels laughable.
Poe2 is a generational game, its going to be like D2. Every other arpg will be judge based on poe2.
And its not even close
Agreed. And this is Early Access. The finished product is yet to be seen.
Further, PoE 1 has seen support and updates for over a decade. We can expect this to be another game that’s supported, playable, and replayable for another 10+ years.
I have young’s kids right now that I could potentially be playing this game with into their teenage years. That, for me, is fucking cool.
Have you seen the boobis glitch on Poe2?
absolutely, i played d4 for season 1 and never came back cause i felt i was just playing d3 tbh, ggg and ehg continues to be the pioneers in the space
yea GGG is like the best gaming company ever. PoE 1 is the goat and PoE 2 is shaping to eventually be even better, no other game really comes close, communication is great and fun as well from them
Poe 2 is what Diablo wishes they could ever remotely be like
I was playing PoE 1 for a loong time, so Im kinda used to GGG being awesome. Some hiccups happen from time to time, but its still that devs, who never let us down, like Fromsoft, Larian or DE (Id say GGG is closest one vibe-wise to Digital Extremes, both are not too big studios, with an insanely big and varied games, both are interacting with community on top level, both are very cautious with their monetisation strategies and both are beloved by their respective communities for all I mentioned above).
PoE2 is a great game and well done to GGG for that. I do however think they have a lot more to work on prior to full launch such as being able to identify one shot / less than 2 second death reason, improve end game / ability to get to citadels etc. I have stopped playing the game until full launch but am hopeful they can get to some of my concerns asap. If not, thankfully, we have a fair few amazing games to keep us busy.
I preferred D2,3 and 4 over PoE1 for whatever reason just after multiple attempts the game just wasn't for me. Initially I wasn't going to even try PoE2 for that reason but I got caught in the zeitgeist with my friends.
I made a warrior and finished act 1 and thought the game felt pretty bad to play, but figured I was out 30 dollars so I rerolled. I went mercenary and the game still wasn't feeling very good to play. As a last ditch effort I changed the control scheme to WASD and the game instantly clicked for me which I honestly wasn't expecting because I always enjoyed mouse move in my ARPGs.
PoE2 felt so good to play with WASD that I am excited to see more of the PoE1 features to be ported over to the game so I can enjoy the stuff people have gushed over for years with a gameplay that feels good for me.
God, imagine having 1700 hours in Diablo 4.
It’s hard to go back to Diablo once you’ve had a taste of POE 2. The combat is on another level
I have been a fan of Diablo series. But have avoided D4. I'd be interested to know how you think it compares. Both games offered trailers years in advance. Both games promised real arpg tactical gameplay.
PoE 1 was awful due to over leveling handing you copious amounts of loot. Basic characteristics indicative only of easy mode design. Obliterating everything around you mindlessly with no regard for tactical play.
Playing PoE2 SSF start from scratch. It feels more like an actual game. I actually found myself clearing all zones because I need to keep my exp up and activity seek out improved gear. So it is far better balanced. I bought it based on advise that it offers actual meaningful play. It is really a huge improvement over the previous game.
Wondering if D4 is actually worth playing because I heard it ended up going down the easy mode drain. But not totally sure how it is.
Do you feel each level offers meaningful gameplay? With real scarcity doing your best to work with with the gear you find?
Or is D4 childsplay overloading you with exp? Making you over overpowered. So combat while progressing is essentially frivolous?
Impressed by their games? Yeah poe1 is excellent albeit bloated as hell after years of content and poe2 will hopefully be amazing at launch. Impressed by the company? Used to be, but they clearly don’t understand how to develop poe1 and poe2 simultaneously and we’ll see that in full when they try to do the same 3-4 month seasonal rotation for both games.
