Concentrated Effect Explained - Area Damage vs Area Effect

01

Hi guys,

I am analyzing the Concentrated Effect support gem which states:
-Supported Skills deal 40% more Area Damage
-Supported Skills have 50% less Area of Effect

What do they mean by Area Damage?
Is the damage dealt in a larger area or is the damage increased by 40%

What is the difference between Area damage vs Area of Effect?

Please elaborate using simple examples for people to understand.

Thanks community!

Area of Effect: The area in which the skill/effect can affect

Area Damage: How much damage is dealt

So Concentrated Effect reduces how big an area your skill/effect can affect while increasing it's damage.

Area damage is a damage multiplier for skills with the AOE tag.

More Area Damage: make damage number bigger

Less Area of Effect: make circle smaller

Area damage is a more general term. that applies to all forms of AoE damage attack, spell and other source of damage (e.g. Melting Maestrom flask is just Chaos Area damage, not spell or attack)

+area damage and -area of effect means it will hit really hard, but it won’t cover as much ground.

It goes with the name (concentrated effect). The skills does more dmg but is smaller in radius.
