Companion damage scaling

21

Just wanted to share some testing and unfortunate findings regarding the rare affixes on companions. I've tested about 5-6 of the damaging modifiers and every time the result has been the same which is that rare affix modifiers do not get affected by support gems, nor are they scaled via companion damage or minion damage. But it doesn't stop at just damage supports. Most utility supports also do not work when trying to affect the affix modifiers.

The most obvious examples of this are things like volatile plants/crags. From my testing volatile crag has a base damage of about 300, and no amount of scaling (from passive tree points or even support gems like feeding frenzy/enormity) that I've tried to use has managed to increase that measly damage. I'm not sure if this is bugged and they are in fact supposed to scale but as of now they do not interact in anyway.

Here's a list of ones I've tested and there average hit damage. There were all tested on boss with before and after snapshots of respeccing about 100% increased damage with companion passive points as well as socketing feeding frenzy + enormity.

Volatile Crag/Empowered Volatile Crag : 300

Volatile Plants/Empowered Volatile Plants: 1000

Trail of Fire: 1000 Ignite DPS

Mana Siphon: 1000 Lightning DPS

Lightning Storm: 1500 x 5

Those are just a few of the ones I could easily test. Also important to mention that any utility supports I've found also just straight up don't work. Things like temporal bubble + enormity support. The companion grows in size and temporal bubble grows with it right? Only visually. The aeo of temporal bubble is still the same except the visual has extended further past the actual range of it. If anyone has utility supports working please let me know which ones. I hope companions are just bugged and that this isn't supposed to be how it works.

Lightning storm + electrocution support also doesn’t work. No electrocution buildup, and I still got shocks on the enemy.

Hopefully it’s on their list of stuff to implement before 1.0.

Does the damage at least scale with gem level on the affixes?

The reasoning for the support gems not working on mods may be that the Temporary Invulnerability Aura mod if compatible with Persistence would enable with two Companions virtually infinite Invulnerability.

At present it lasts from my rough calculations 4.5 seconds (maybe slightly less at 4 seconds) and is recast every 10-11 seconds depending on mob proximity (unfortunately my beast that has the mod is a burrower that functions more like an Invulnerability totem).

It's possible even without supports you could reduce vulnerability down to 2 seconds but it's also possible having the mod on two companions syncs the proc meaning they don't stagger but I just need to find two fast moving Beasts with this mod to test.

Outliers that break the game may be the reason that Beast Mods can't be supported by gems or it could be a bug, either way I hope we get clarity from GGG.

from what i can gather, if it's a coded as a passive thing that goes off, supports don't work on it, if it's coded as an active skill, then they will, the lightning storm ability seems to be a skill, which i think is why lightning exposure works on it

So if I have a lightning storm minion do any offensive support gems actually work on it?

Has anyone found a mob that has multiple auras? I have only seen one aura for any given rare. Been keeping a stack of tame beasts like poke balls in my inventory, just in case.

I look forward to them patching this and inadvertently tripling the damage of these effects on enemy rares.

I feel like we need a Companion pin during the beta here to catalogue what works, what doesn't and whats good/bad.

For example I got a Bramble Hulk with "Heals Allies and Suppreses Foe Recovery", and it has like a 320 Regeneration and sometimes gives me 60 extra regen, which I think is 5% health.
