When do good phys spears outdo tangle tongue and when is TT bis?
I can't link right now but I am on an Amazon scaling crit. My weapon is good around 400pdps. But I don't have a lot of time to tinker to see what's optimal. When do people use TT over higher end rare spears? I understand you need a lot of flat from other sources to scale it but does that make it outperform TT on crit scaling builds?

TT has a ton of crit chance but more importantly, it essentially has double damage on crit. So unless you’re playing bleed/poison it outscales every spear under 100d. In the case of a 400pdps spear it’s not even close.
Splinter of loratta is also essentially 200% more damage however your scaling gets split between poison and hit.
For Tangle to be good, you want 100% non-conditional crit chance, and a lot of flat damage on your other gear to make up for the abysmal base damage. Even then you probably need a 19%+ crit roll and double socket corrupt for it to outscale a basic rare spear with 400 accuracy, a crit damage roll and an accuracy rune.
I would imagine it would depend on what your skill is that you're using. I'm doing bleed so I need the high phys and stack accuracy on it, tried the TT and while I could use it, my rake gained a ton of crit but also like 300 flat, so it was a net negative. If you're doing something else that isn't phys scale based then I'd imagine TT would be the better option.
When aspects that TT sucks at matter more.
For example if you're playing this you want a spear with high base attack speed and lots of accuracy:

If you're playing lightning spear, or any non amazon, TT is probably better to build around.
Used Snoobaes guide because it's better than mine, but if you prefer written:

As far as damage scaling, a god tier spear like Snoobaes will probably outperform or match TT but the surrounding gear for optimizing each spear is very different so it's hard to say what will do more damage.
You trade 10-15 base crit and forking critical for up +200 flat phys, 700+ accuracy, and 25% more attack speed, so the builds optimized for each spear will have very different looks and not easy to compare outside of boss kill times. I imagine TT might delete bosses faster (esp new deadeye) but the movement speed of whirling slash is hard to beat.
From what I understand the 1ex TT ain't gonna do it, u need 19% Crit chance+ to worth the switch
A 2 slot TT with at least 20% crit chance and around 70% evasion and 1.8k HP is enough to do maps without any issue. For bosses, I'm pretty sure you can defeat all boss at 8/10 in atlas points (current progress). For other special boss such as King of the Mist and Xesht, you can manage it until T2 with enough damage. T3 and above will require further investment in damage. I have 190% IIR so I can't do T4 King of the Mist and T2 Xesht (hand slams one shot me and kinda annoying spawn placement)
I have 99% crit through unique helmet and unique gloves. I still using TT and 2 cast on crit with life leech. Basically same build as my spark last league, but using TT spears on gemling
it's a weird balancing act. with TT you need a TON of flat damage from rings/gloves to make up for what you lose on weapon and it helps you cap crit and a ton of crit multi.
but my amazon with a 500 accuracy spear gets roughly twice the base damage and is still crit capped, tough to say.
People use TT over good accuracy/crit spears when they're playing a class other than Amazon
Ppl don’t account for tt double crit in pob cause kekw
Following cause I’m curious as well
