What's the purpose of Ruby/Sapphire/Topaz charms? Is anyone using them?

I think the only time I was using one of them, was early on during campaign (because I didn't have any other). Is there anything what they're worth using for? Wouldn't it be better if they also/instead granted some increase to the max res (like flask in PoE1)?

They're nice early and mid game for patching gaps in resistance coverage, especially on a first league character or SSF character. Late game they fall off in favor of anti freeze and anti stun.

Good for campaign yes

Yeah that's basically the only use case

Because the game is balanced around you always being capped at all resistances... Charms that give you resistance on taking damage are mostly useless

The fact that they don't even protect you from the ailment too is also bad

More people would run "25% cold res and immunity to freeze" than just cold res

during campaign yes - during endgame i use freeze or stun charms

Do any monsters inflict Scorch? If so, a ruby charm might be semi-useful if you're not overcapped.

SSF I was using a cold resist one until like level 91. When you can’t buy stuff, you get weird gaps in your defenses pretty easily, so they’re good for that.

I used them when I was still getting gear sorted to fill in gaps.

Considering the persistent trend of PoE2 trying its best to "go its own road" but ending up reinventing the same wheel, I will not be surprised if charms will be eventually changed in similar way to PoE1's solution.

I dont think so the stun charm is pretty much mandetory.
