The Apex of Filth has a really easy route once you know the fundamentals: Move clockwise, and hug the inside wall.

Seems like a common strategy for any kind of maze
Between start and 1 you didnt hug the inside wall
I'm either on this area or just past it. I forget. I would know but my power went out literally 2 minutes after switching my display to start playing poe2. I'll make note of this though in case I am on it.
After getting lost the first time I ever played this zone, I tested this zone quite extensively and found that this strategy does not fail at all, I have multiple other characters and everytime I run this strategy I always get to the Queen of Filth in as minimal as a time as possible.
Steps:
1 . Move clockwise, starting from where you enter the Apex of Filth.
2 . Hug the inside wall as you move clockwise.
3 . You'll know you're getting closer once you hit each checkpoint -- a third checkpoint tells you you're at the boss.
Last but not least, don't eat the mushrooms! Hope this helps anybody getting stuck on this zone
Yup, all of the act three Utzaal maps seem semi-fixed. I’m guessing it’s do that that they “match” in present/past.
For apex if filth, it took me 5 runs to realize the friendly witch was a vendor— worth talking g to her
Legend!
The Apex of Filth is such a weird ass name.
Do my children disgust you? They taste better than they look!
Do you know a good strategy for the Bog witch? Only zone in Act III I haven't really 'figured out' yet.
People not just following a wall in EVERY ZONE basically are doing themselves a disservice
I spawned bottom right and it was the same idea but counter-clockwise.
I spawned in the south east though? Your start was where my cauldron was.
It's not always clockwise. Sometimes counterclockwise. Also I've played hardcore and softcore and the league you are in is for sure used in the layout generation code. Hardcore zones are drastically flipped from softcore. I'm sure others can attest
I hug every wall in every map.
apex of filth was counter clockwise and outside wall my last time through
In ARPGs/MMOs, I always use the left-hand method on the walls and find the objective, and in POE 2, it's been quite easy because there are no "objectives that aren't rare" in the middle of the map. Something similar happens in D4, except they copy maps and flip them :(
I don't think this is always true, but you can check both "sides" if the start location. If the minimap shows a path across the river, but it's blocked by a wall, that's the direction. If you can cross the river (very near the entrance), it's the other side.
This is actually how to solve any maze. All mazes can be solved by just hugging one wall all the way through
I swear I’ve gone counter clockwise before but maybe I’m wrong. The big thing for me is that you can see which side has enemies on the other side of it when you walk by the walls of the entrance area. Then follow the wall on that side.
That's awesome tip! Which my dumb brain won't utilize at all cause it won't let me be if I don't fully clear each map! I love my OCD!
Yes, I'm 50 hours deep in first character and still halfway act 3. How did You guess?
are you guys running through these asap? im new player and basically clearing the entire levels to not miss anything, is it a waste of time? currently on cruel act 2
Same reason I love the Augury map too. Idk why ppl hate it.
Yesterday I did a straight shot to the Bog witch with no backtracking and not finding the ritual burning thing. It was probably the most satisfying thing I've done in the game so far.
That's my basic strategy for most maps. Or just find the widest path n stick to it running fast as possible ignoring mobs if I want
bless ur soul
Actually useful information on Reddit, what year is it? Thanks OP!
This post would be helpful if I didn’t have to obsessively clear every zone regardless
bigger maps are better and once solved will result in a much quicker levelling experience than the smaller zones of poe1.
Mine today was actually counter clockwise. Started bottom right, mushroom npc was to the top left.
Since this was my 4th time through, thought that was a bit weird, previous three times was consistently moving clockwise from the start.
Boss was south, south west.
Fk this level sucks 😁
I spent an hour here the first time, lol
This happened to me yesterday, feltgoodman
I am honestly wondering if the semi random map generation is even a good feature. It feels like you mostly know the maps anyway once you played through the game 2-3 times, but you still keep losing your mini map each time you move away from a zone for too long which sucks.
now do this for every campaign zone
it's just 3 times as long as you'd like it to be so you start doubting yourself half way through
Am I the only one who always uncovers the entire map, like a roomba?
Every single campaign map needs a critical path laid out with some kind of unique markers such as a road or torches or anything that says "this is how to get to the map exit/goal". If they want massive maps, fine, but don't make us go through mazes or finding weird deterministic solutions.
And just like poe1, most campaign zones work this way and can speed up your campaign by a lot.
That’s the solution for any non circular maze. If you drop an item and start when coming along that item again to hug to the wall while moving count clockwise you got the generic solution for any maze.
Am I the only one who likes clearing the entire map? I don’t want empty blue spaces, I feel like filling out the map is a game of its own
I full-clear because it's fun.
after 10+ full campaigns on act service i`m know almost every layout of needed location except absolutely cursed Azak Swamp. btw i`m noticed in second run that Apex of Filth is great location with stable spiral in left/right direction. in first run i touch every wall of that giant temple.
it's not always clockwise, there's a hit after first checkpoint which direction to go. I levelled 6 diff. characters and had both sides multiple times
