Why is poe2 so poorly CPU optimized (Ryzen 5 5600X) crashing after update more often, so annoying help!

Comments
Even PoE1 took ages to have some level of CPU and GPU optimization. I had to buy new rig twice to be able to continue to play since open beta of PoE1 until last year.
I have the 5600 and have not crashed yet. It gets limited with a ton of particles but stability is rock solid.
I also have a 5600x, no crashes since EA started. Something might be wrong with your system.
The loading screen and character creation screen ramp my GPU up to 80 degrees, lol.
Beta game. Hope they fix that on release.
I have a 5700x3d and same problem. I've given up trying to play the game. It hard crashes my pc so it's not worth it
Ryzen 7 5600g here, No problems so far since the first big update. Had to be in Vulcan for that time frame sometimes.
I have a Ryzen 5 5600X and RTX3060ti and was also experiencing crashes where my whole computer would freeze and I'd have to reboot the entire system. I checked a few reddit threads about crashes and a lot of people were saying that windows 11 could be impacting it. I've since formatted my PC back to windows 10 and have put in about 30 hours of playtime and so far ZERO crashes, so this fixed it for me, with the downside of having to fresh install win10.
Started getting ton of DX12 crashes, switch to Vulkan and no crashes since.
This is so weird from the outside. I emulate the game and am on a niche Linux distro and haven’t had this issue. It’s weird to see native windows users having this issue and it not trickling down to the Linux community
If you haven’t already, also consider checking out PC gaming optimization guides to make sure you’re eeking out as much power and performance from your CPU as possible.
While ps5 not a single crash. Thank the Lord for consoles
It uses 45% of my Ryzen 9 7950X3D which basically means boosting my 8-core X3D chiplet to the wall momentarily, every map load.
So it is basically 100% of a 7800X3D during those initial load times.
How long was your PC on and how long had you been running POE2 without restarting your PC in this instance? POE2 has a really bad memory leak. If its on for 6> hours you should restart your pc then play again
Hrmm I’m running everything on max settings, and sit at like 9% cpu usage on a Ryzen 7 9700x, no crashes at all
Game crashing and taking up the entire cpu is a well known and well discussed issue. This is nothing new. They say they are working on it but we'll see how long it takes. Already been 2 months.
I have 5900x and 6900xt and it performs fine. Few crashes when i start the game so far, but 0 during the gameplay
“You paid for 100% of the cpu, you’re going to use 100% of the cpu” -GGG
I have a 9800x3d , I crashed a lot before switching to Vulkan renderer, turned off Simultaneous multi threading, limit FPS to 100, and turned off sound reverb
i had a similar issue but after fully updating windows and updating my nvidia driver, it seems to not occur any more.
Never had a crah( win 11 H23...12700...4070TI).Strange that the game it runs much smoother on windows balance mode compared to windows performance, but yup cpu optimiation is one of the worst i have seen.
Im using 5600x as well and never had any issues since release. I even play while theres two vm running in the background. Im lucky i guess.
I've had chronic crashing issues on a 7900x3d build and my current 9800x3d build. I can almost do it on command when I'm accessing my stash and try to swap weapons now. It's only poe2 I have issues with. I wring the snot outta this thing when I'm racing with no issues.
I fixed this by switching to Vulkan. Haven't experienced a crash since then.
“Premature optimization” is a pretty well established rookie mistake in game development (and software more broadly). It wastes huge amounts of time and money on things that you later find were not even relevant in the finished product. It increases your time to market, it eats your funding runway.
Not only is it a higher priority to get the MVP out the door quickly so you can get user feedback and iterate on it, it’s also significantly easier to focus more on optimization once you’ve collected performance data from a large number of beta testers running the game on probably tens of thousands of different hardware configurations.
Friendly reminder that this is early access. This is exactly the time you’d expect the game to be in a pre-optimized state.
My 7840u completely shutdown only when running poe2
I had two crashes today, basically the first time that’s happened.
If you're crashing every 5 minutes try adjusting your MSI afterburner if you ever did before. I undervolted mine too much, I adjusted it a little it stopped crashing.
I just built a top of the line pc last summer. Crashed at the final chest room after completing my first trial of suck today and lost the chests. I uninstalled.
Tbf I reinstalled an hour later
I play on a steam deck and I don't think I've ever crashed in 350 hours.
My game hasn’t crashed since recent update + windows update. Try the POE2uncrasher, that helps me before
Was enjoying the game on the XSX until some common situations droped fps to 10.
Will the ceo could invest more time into the company instead of being a furrfag.
Switch to vulkan and never crash again
1usmus ryzen power profile fixed it for me.
This is a well known issue. I ran process lasso to prevent hard locks, but game still crashed a bunch. Did some research and found 1usmus as a suggested fix.
Once I got that set up, no crashes but still high temps. Undervolted the CPU in the bios and looking great now with no performance loss.
I also have a 5600x and I have only rarely crashed since launch, though I do get noticeable hitching during monster spawning like in sek trials hourglass or delerium encounters. Some maps end game just chug inherently, savannahs being a big one. But I don't actually crash. Maybe I'm lucky
I had a r5 5600x too with the stock fan and all, it was paired with my 7800xt and ngl I ran it like a champ on max settings… sure temps and usage would spike often but it was generally fine.
I recently got a r7 7700x with an actual AIO cooler and it still basically does the same thing. It’s not necessarily your cpu it’s just the game
Is your docp enabled?
I have a 5800x3d 4070ti super, and it has had microstutters. Since the last update, it's gotten a little better, but every now and then, the game crashes sometimes but still playable.
5800x3D and never crashed once 230 hours played. Might be unfair comparison tho.
Ryzen 5 5600x and haven't crashed in 3 or 4 weeks tbh
Because the game is in early access and isn't optimized properly yet, which is a common thing for most games now, let alone early access.
Nobody can help you, GGG don't care about optimization of their games (poe1 is also horrible in that regard), all the settings are hard locked to not go below 'looking good on stream' so you can't really squeeze any meaningful amount of fps from game settings and over the years they kept steadily reducing amount of things you can tweak for more fps. It is obvious that they couldn't care less about people with cheaper pc's, their target audience is someone who can afford spending money on mtx regularly anyway.
Want an actually working advice? buy better pc, that's all you can do to counter dogsht poe optimization. Sorry to be so blunt, but i don't want to bs you into thinking that GGG will do something about it or that there is some magical fix to this, there is none.
7800x3d has had no issues, it's not the cheapest thing in the world but the performance per dollar is really good and it'll last you. Granted I built this pc for games like tarkov so probably overkill if you're just playing arpg's
Poe1 was hard crashing people's PCs for years and it's continued into Poe2. It will never be fixed
Turn off multi threading in options. The CPU usage issue with Poe2 is them messing with CPU multi threading, for those that hit 100% while playing, I recommend turning multi threading off until they fix it.
It sucks for loading and for areas you see other places but you don't see massive loss of frames when you go into a map and play solo.
There's speculation that the crashes are caused by, windows version 24h2, to find out what version you have open "run" and type in "winver", I had to reinstall windows to revert my version back to 23h2 and have had absolutely no crashes since, can't be positive this is the full issue though, also has been said that the newest graphics card update has caused a few issues for certain people aswell, if you recently updated your GPU drivers maybe try reverting that. I am running an ryzen 9 3900x, 32gb ram, 2070 super and m.2 storage devices.
The guy on poe1 is still lagging on smudged maps on an ultra expensive PC, so my advice is this: either endure it or look for another game since they won’t do anything.
Talk about it, I just upgraded my CPU from an intel 5 6600 to a ryzen 9700x and its worse than before lol
Always has been.
i had the same cpu as you, upgraded to 5700x3d to be able to play the game, it's a cpu on the cheaper side and it gave me in poe2 like +100 fps
Ryzen 9 7950x and nVidia 3080 on Windows 10. Since the last patch the game is literally unplayable, it constantly crashes without freezing the Windows. I tried all workarounds that I found online so far but none seem to help.
I've sunk more than 10 hours of my time into troubleshooting, but it's simply a no go.
Some things i did:
- Using Vulkan
- Reverted nVidia driver to 560
- Limiting core usage
- Disabling multithreading
- Game reinstall (I also moved the game to an SSD)
- In-game sound settings
- Windows related troubleshooting
- Full Windows reinstall
Nothing really helped, the game is still crashing, just at different points with the same error messages in the Event Viewer.
I read a comment about using DLSS4, so i'll try that since I haven't, but i'm not optimistic at all.
If anyone has something else, please let me know, otherwise i'll have to wait for some official info from GGG.
